I didnt watch the whole game but what I did see the fouls were ticky tack, but nothing egregious. Is there ones you guys can point to that are really bad? I wonder if everyone is just used to the superstar NBA whistle that Luka gets.

Granted Germany has been looking good and playing well throughout the tournament, but man this Finland team has been firing on all cylinders lately and seem to be a mission! Not ruling out a huge Finnish upset in the semis.

German here.
Just rewatch the 4th quarter. Best examples are a foul on Alen Omic with 3:44 to play when it clearly should have been a foul on Daniel Theis.
Minutes earlier there was a defensive foul on Bonga against Doncic which clearly should have been nothing.
Its a shame that people can`t see that the refs have been bad both ways and the main difference between fouls called and free throws awarded came in the last 1-3 minutes when Slovenia went nuts.
Sekulic is disgusting. Has there ever been a do-or-die game where slovenia lost and they all were like "Yeah, this is on us. We lost against a better team". No, its always about the refs. Every EuroBasket. 2022 against poland, 2025 against germany.

The last 2 Omic fouls were clearly needless and terrible, the game also started with quick 2 on Luka.
The refs were terrible, amd sbouldn't referee high stakes game, but Slovenia lost because they choked and it's tastelss and classless to blame officiating after you missed everything and blew a hige lead.
Defense wins draft lotteries!

It was his choice. He wanted to coach a club again and try something new. It wasn't like Germany sacked him.

It's really odd that Slovenia doesn't try to get Jaka Lakovic to be their head coach.

Interesting how supposedly smart people can't understand that giving Bonga a foul or Luka 4th in the beginning of 3rd has very different consequences for the game.
Everything started with T in 3rd minute. That should never happen in a game like that. And remember T is counting as a foul in Fiba competition. It's kinda difficult and exhausting to play having to protect your superstar in D not getting 5th the whole second half. And it's incredibly difficult to even play normal offense, if you see that referees just waiting to call another offensive foul on you. That was the reason they couldn't hit anything in the end. Should Luka attacked the rim more and hope referees won't whistle another offensive foul on him? Probably, but the most likely scenario in that case would be, that he's out in Q3 already.
Refereeing is not only about calling fouls, but it's about having the feel of the game, which those Fiba referees obviously haven't, because they're refereeing only low level of competition.
If you're a team with 8 players capable of playing, refereeing criteria of calling everything will hit you a lot more than if you've deeper roster.
Germany, who played a lot more aggressively, had 12 FTs more, because every soft foul was called on Slovenians. They couldn't even box out in Q4, because it was a foul and Fts every time. So yes refereeing was bad and clearly favouring Germans.
Slovenian players should be proud how they have played with clearly inferior roster and being handicapped by referees, who shouldn't be refereeing that level of competition. But that's Fiba, the most incompetent sport organisation.
Germany on the other hand, what a joke of the favourites. Franz, who will be tournament Mvp, if Germany wins, was shooting 5/17, but luckily got 15 Fts. MVP?

Yes offficiating was terrible, the T shouldn't have been given, but at least 2 fouls on Luka were phantom calls, and the refs swallowed their whistle after Luka's second and allowed him to be physical on defense.
Slovenia had the game and lost it on 2 improbable shots by TDV and Obst, I understand the frustration, but they simply couldn't hit a thing in the last 5 minutes.

Finland are the cinderella team in this tourney that you see in the ncaa. Non-contending teams beating up #1 ranked blue bloods.
Happens all the time. They make incredible runs. George Mason, UNC 22, NC State, etc etc. You just hope they dont lose their gas until the finals.

Do you really don't understand that giving him few superstars calls, which btw Franz and Schroeder were getting also, is far less impactful than force him to play with 4 fouls the whole second half? Don't you understand that calling every single soft contact will for sure favour more deeper team?
All Slovenians defensive rotations were different because they needed to protect Luka and that takes a lot more effort, which shows on other part of the court. Luka clearly couldn't attack like he normally does, because any contact he creates could be whistled as offensive foul, so he settled for 3s.
Frustrations is about referees being the main actors from the beginning, 3 nobodies ruined the game.

Until the end of the 4th Slovenians and Doncic specifically got FTs awarded for simply having a german breath into their face. Then the refs went 180° and called everything in favor of the germans at the end.
The technical on Doncic in the 2nd minute was ridiculious, but he had 4 fouls at halftime and should have had the 5th at least 2 times before the 4th quarter. So in the end the terrible reffing was even for both sides, tho giving Doncic a tech in the 2nd minute probably altered how the game would have went normally

And Franz didn't get FT for every contact?
You understand that T is a foul in Fiba? And what about his incredibly soft 3rd foul before halftime?
Germany had 12 Fts more and it seems to you that Slovenia was favoured for 3 and half Qs? Germany had 37 FTs in the end of Q4?

No one really does that in single game Euro elimination. Even if you look at Euroleague final 4 games, rarely will you see coaches experiment with rotations or schemes.
So many people who attain the heights of power in this culture—celebrities, for instance—have to make a show of false humility and modesty, as if they got as far as they did by accident and not by ego or ambition.

Coaches rely heavily on pre game plan in these games, they create complete strategy on how to defend Luka team during these two days, it is really hard to then just try something different in game. Of course coaches do it and need to adapt in the moment if somethings not working, but pre game plan is a huge factor of how game will play out. We saw examples were pre game plan really worked, like Lithuania vs Finland, and we saw pregame plan that crashed in burned like Italy vs Slovenia, where they basically abandoned it by the second quarter. Eurobasket is this unique setting where one guy can be so much better than everyone else, and you really need to prep for him for a few days, just in game tactics is not enough.

What experiment on what scheme? Im just saying.. he let Franz go ham on the 1st quarter and he delivered.. but then went away from him amd instead made him the luka defender when they needed sxoring to overcome Slovenias lead

Re: OT : Eurobasket 2025 semifinals | Türkiye vs Greece | & | Finland vs Germany |
As neutral viewer, this was worst officiated national teams games in last +5 years.
Between first quarter finger poke of doom calls, laughable technical , Schroder 360 flip- flopping, refs never had control over a game, but lost credibility in 3rd when they changed how they call fouls and allowed more physical play. Well...at least for Germany. For Slovenia, it was still mostly finger poke fouls against them.
30 vs 20 disparity in FT just goes to show you how uneven officiating was. It's not like Germany played any more aggressive, it's just refs that had no clue what they are calling. That allyoop miss-late foul on Thies is best example of crappy officiating.
I got bored and decided to slow down one of end game plays that broke a game.
with 1:46 to play, Germany up by 3, Theis gets ball in post. Slovenia traps. Theis makes 7 ( seven! ) steps before passing. Refs call nothing.
Even that Lo 3 point line in 4th was uncalled very obvious offensive foul while illegal screening by Bonga. Not only that he moved screen, he held player so he can't pass and contest shooter.
Even in 3rd i think, when Schroder just smacked guy to prevent layup/dunk, it should have been unsportsmanship foul because there was no intention to attack ball, missed ball by like 50 cm, 100% hands & elbow hit.
But yea... Slovenia is small country. Germany isn't. Gotta help big ones.

2nd and 3rd best players weren't allowed to play by Olimpia Milano. Funny enough they're playing friendliest for Milano at the moment.

I can't wait for the complaints about the referees after the game between Greece and Turkiye. This is gonna be fun
