This is not a big deal and I'm not ranting and raving here. But this is a great illustration of the Adam Silver era. They are soft or non involved in significant and solvable issues. Then they tweak stupid stuff like this, to make players look (to a minuscule degree) better. And they make the all star court a tv screen. And they have tried nine different ways to pick all star teams. Meanwhile the Clips circumvent the salary cap to land a premiere free agent from a small market team to no penalty. Load management makes families afraid to take their kids to a game. Etc.

Don’t forget the regional sports network debacle that has gone on the last few years. Silver should’ve pressured the owners long ago to get those rights back when Fox Sports blew up. The Diamond/Bally situation was an embarrassment.
I will never understand how these owners can get their stadiums funded by taxpayers, yet the broadcasts are restricted. It’s better than the old select games on UPN days, but I’d expect better for this day and age.

Michael Redd's career could have been very different.

Players not taking last second shots to protect their stats has always been one of my biggest annoyances watching games so this makes me irrationally annoyed further.

Who was the dude who is/was notorious for chucking the shot a split-second after the buzzer?

Adam Silver is the **** woooooorst.
Adam Silver was asked about the rising cost to watch a season of NBA games as a fan of a particular team, considering all the games on either cable or streaming services. He said that there a bunch of games that will go on free, broadcast TV, and that fans can also consume the league in other ways besides watching games, noting that the NBA is a highlight league.

Kevin Durant: ‘It depends on what I’m shooting from the field. First quarter if I’m 4-for-4, I let it go. Third quarter if I’m like 10-for-16, or 10-for-17, I might let it go. But if I’m like 8-for-19, I’m going to go ahead and dribble one more second and let that buzzer go off and then throw it up there. So it depends on how the game’s going.’
Amos Barshad: "So you got a job, a place to live, a license? What’s left?"
Giannis: “Nothing. Just get a ring now.”

How hard would it be for the owners to eat the cost of having just one game a week on broadcast television or simulcast on YouTube? The RSN’s aren’t going to shy away from their lucrative contracts because of one game a week.
That’s ~24-25 out of 82 games not counting the playoffs, and possibly less if a game is already the NBC/ABC broadcast.
A few years ago there was an article about the Bally broadcasts to the Milwaukee market averaging like 20,000 viewers, and that’s when we were the best team in the league.

What this quote tells me and I believed it to be the case before I saw this but I feel even more strongly about it now is that we are about to be in year 1 of the NBA's new 11 year TV/streaming contract and that Adam Silver will retire at some point during this contract.
The NBA has seen a significant overall viewership drop during his tenure but that drop has been largely meaningless because it hasn't redounded to the detriment of the league in its TV contracts. I think at some point over the next decade there's going to be a realization that the NBA is an overvalued media property and we see a fairly significant drop in their next contract. But Silver's going to be gone by that point and the next person is the one who is going to shoulder the blame for that.

Imagine completely brushing off legitimate fan concerns about sky-rocketing streaming costs and how the league is pricing out the average fan while also echoing "let them eat cake" vibes. Silver is such a tone deaf moron.

Don’t worry, we’re getting a new All Star Game format to follow up the excitement of the Hulu Emirates Starry NBA In Season Tournament brought to you by FanDuel only on TNT and ESPN, you figure it out!

This is a great change and hopefully it's retroactive. Now the NFL needs to stop counting spikes as pass attempts and kneel downs as rush attempts.

Plausible deniability gone, but I’m sure Silver is going to give them the lightest slap on the wrist at this point. The irony of old Skeletor not having a back bone.
