I don't think Precious is a scrub, but it looks like his next deal will be a non-guarantee deal if he even returns to the NBA. Horford and Bucks probably going to end up with non-guarantee deals, too. This is more of a recent development where rotational players are getting squeezed. Good job, CBA/NBPA.

I forgot that Horford still hasn't signed and that doesn't make sense to me. He can still play and he fills a position of need for a lot of team. It wouldn't surprise me if he retires or is waiting for the Celtics to clear room to bring him back.

I'd also bring Precious back if I'm the Knicks. We know he is a serviceable regular season minutes eater and while we are hoping Hukporti fills that role, it's not guaranteed. With Robinson's injury history I would prioritize brining him back over Shamet

Horford is waiting for the Warriors to figure out Kuminga. I actually thought Brogdon was too.

I think for Precious, I heard Miami was interested in him

Right. But we're in September. The CBA of a few years ago wouldn't have players like those 2 unsigned this late into the offseason.

Off the top of my head I really can't think of any other examples of guys that have been rotational players for years and have a ton of tape signing camp deals to compete for a roster spot outside of the Knicks. I wish I could find the exhibit 9 and 10 deals for other teams over the last couple years. I can only find guys like Kevin Knox, James Wiseman, Harry Giles and Jaden Springer signing these deals.

I'm not surprised Horford is unsigned because I think he has specific moves/teams in mind and I think retiring in a warming climate is probably on his bucket list.

I, too, am worried about our forward rotation. But I think Precious is done with NY in general. I feel like he feels like Thibs didn't give him a fair shake. The Knicks bench certainly means Hulk is getting minutes. And I'd be mightily pissed off if Hart ends up starting again. I prefer Mitch manning the middle. I'd also gamble on Deuce, but that's a big gamble. Wish DDV was still on this team, because he is the type of player that can make me stomach KAT at C.

I'm surprised by the non-guaranteed. I would think Brogdon has options.

All the same, I think we intend to open a spot for him. There's no one better on the market

Spoiler:
Unless Kawhi gets released

Brogdon might not be so interested in money at the moment. He has already earned $132,532,562 so far. Besides, he is pretty smart. He already holds a master's degree and could have attended Harvard.

Yeah Brogdon is very intelligent. I think he was building water access infrastructure in Africa and he runs a foundation for inner city kids that push them toward science and math fields.

Whatever you didnt like about him became the reason he got fired. Who knows but out of all the reasons, I just refuse to believe that on a contending team anybody in charge cared how much a 19yr old kid played and I still dont. Im not gonna lose out on getting guys who I believe would help us out in the most clutch of moments because we got rookies occupying thier roster spot. GTFOH.

We need a trade to open up two roster spots

Given the investment that went into putting this team together, the age of the primary players, and the state of the conference - everything is about maximizing the chances to win in the playoffs this year and next year.

Now is not the time to develop 2nd rd picks. There will be a time when we have an aging, expensive roster without control of our draft. Now is the time to make that pain worth it.

Bingo. Screw a battle, I want both of these guys on my roster ASAP

He doesn’t really provide anything to this team, maybe another team could have a better role for him but we have too many undersized guards and he doesn’t really fit with this team. Also he might suck so meh it’s whatever

Shamet or Brogdan won’t be in the rotation.

Brogdon is a better player than Clarkson. The only question with Brogdon is his health.

Clarkson's offensive skillset might not be something the Knicks actually need UNLESS Brunson, Bridges, Anunoby, or KAT get hurt.

I imagine Brogdon will be the 2nd unit PG and also be used to let Brunson play off ball more. Clarkson will be the 6th man scorer, Deuce moves to the starting 5 to play 3 and D SG and allows the team to play 5 out.

Kolek actually regressed (SL) imo... then again, I wasn't as high on him as some. Dude just can't play D, doesn't seem very strong and isn't very athletic.

I'm open to moving our young players but is the plan to load up on older small nonathletic guards? For what?

I'd rather have Matthews over Shamet. Purer shooter, seems to excel on the catch and shoot off screens.

His offense is pretty abysmal, too. Its just his defense is so glaringly bad that it distracts from his 33/30/77 shooting %.

Even a washed brogdon is a massive upgrade from kolek.

There's a decent chance OG will miss time; he usually does. Last year was an outlier.

Brogdon does a lot of good things, sure Shamet and/or Matthews are "stay in their lane, accept a role" kind of player, but Knicks need another guy who can create his own shot at an elite level from all 3 levels of scoring, because other than Brunson and the injury question mark that Brogdon is, the roster sort of lacks that player.

Can Mikal create? Yes. He's hardly elite though. Probably 4th best guy after Clarkson.
OG? Not really. Ok, a little.
KAT? Sure, but he's better getting set up. He's a big.
Deuce? No.
Yabu? Eh
Hart? In the open floor, yes. In the halfcourt? Eh.
Mitch? No. Huk? No. Dadiet? No.

It's ok for Clarkson to be on the Knicks. They can use what he does.

Kolek might yet pan out to be a decent backup.
That doesn't mean the Knicks need to hold on to him waiting for it to happen.

Also, these are players on the Knicks who I have as developmental, to one degree or another:

Huk
Dadiet
McCullars
Dink
Diawara
Kolek

That's more than 1/3 a 17 man roster.

Even though McCullars, Dink, Diawara and Dadiet are SFs, or at least SGs, and Kolek is the only "PG prospect", it's not like the Knicks won't have some young guys to develop and then either play or deal. They can deal him and then find another 2nd round PG guy to develop. For all we know, they already like someone at Westchester better, but my memory of their roster doesn't work in the offseason.

1 of the few players in the 50-40-90 club.

Let's see if that person we stole from the Mavericks helps us keep this guy healthy.

Before Brunson I'd have been excited about kolek as a prospect. but with our current expectations we need a serviceable back up. Kolek isnt it. And considering the other prospects we have id rather keep them. He is the weakest one with little to no path for major mins and a long road to even being serviceable.

I didn’t think the Knicks could get Brogdon with their salary cap limitations….and here he is on a training camp invite…..him and the team must know he is making it

Return to New York Knicks
