lol, so just like last season?

He already doesn’t trust Kerr to play him.

It's the only leverage he has.

Unless he wants to show up to camp with an improved skillset and willingness to buy into a role that gets him on the floor constantly.

I wonder if FanDuel has odds for that happening.

And the Warriors are trying to have their cake and eat it too.

If they made year 2 a player option he would sign the deal. He wants to hit UFA and the current offer doesn’t guarantee that.

What is FA going to look like for him after another season like the last or worse?

How could that be, wouldn't the player have to sign some contract before the season started?

Or maybe some RFA players held out through December?

10/1 is the deadline but it can be extended if both sides agree. At least as I understand it.

The QO can be extended by the team, but not past March 1. If the deadline passes, either Oct 1 or whenever it's extended to, without being accepted or expiring, the player continues to be an RFA. They can still negotiate and sign a contract but obviously they can't play until some contract is signed.

I guess that would mean the player agrees as well by not signing the QO.

How many “strongly considering and leaning towards QO” we have had, 3 at least, no?

Warriors eventually have to sign the guys the have in line. Anything to prevent JK from just holding out until they do? Then, when they do, hunting an offer that they can’t match because they are hard capped?
This movie is like the Rocky Horror Picture Show where everyone knows all the lines.

League rules. Oct 1 is the deadline for him to sign the QO. That's what we're all waiting for.

That’s my specific question. What if he doesn’t sign the QO? Is he free to solicit offers from other teams after 10/1?

Nope. He's still an RFA, the QO just goes away. Well, he can still solicit offers, just like now, but the Warriors can still match if they want to and can fit under any hard caps they've got. Just like now.

They can keep extending the deadline for the QO can't they?

Yep, until Mar 1. It's pretty rare, though.

So if JK just unsigned until 1 day before season starts, will Dubs not sign any FA? :banghead:

I'm sure everyone is on the same page with the potential timeline.

The QO extension requires the agreement from both Kuminga and the Warriors. I suspect Kuminga may want it extended, while the Warriors probably don't.

My understanding is that the FA's they have handshake deals with are waiting until JK's contract is settled because if they sign them first another team could then offer JK a contract the Warriors couldn't match without cap consequences.

I think the bigger deadline is for any S&T deal. Once the regular season starts, and that's usually a few days before game #1, S&Ts are not allowed. This of course assumes Kuminga didn't sign the QO and remains unsigned.

That consequence would likely be the Warriors having to jettison Hield or Moody for less salary in return to stay below a likely 2nd apron hard cap (due to signing Horford to the TPMLE) in matching such an offer. The Warriors would have 48 hours to make room below the 2nd apron.

That would have to be a hefty first year offer for this to be a problem.

I would rather match a JK offer than sign Horford. There is no upside to playing Horford in a 40-win campaign.
