I thought they said after we signed him, that he had a few different teams that wanted him, but he chose to sign with the Jays.

He cleared waivers when he was with Pittsburgh making him a free agent..
He could clear again, but there are a few more spots in MLB in September due to guys being shut down and one extra roster spot.

The question then is if he accepts a demotion or goes FA route.

It's more of an 11-2 score, general baseball interest discussion. We have Fluharty jammed in AAA, so not worried about a potential loss of Borucki.

Have to remember the reason Borucki came back in the first place -- because of the way the 6 man rotation and Fisher situation was mishandled which was forcing the Jays to rotate out pitchers every day or two to get rested bodies. Situation has clearly stabilized at this point. So in that regard he did his job while he was here.

I disagree with Jamie Campbell who said we could watch the Red Sox-Yankees game without worrying about the result.
You should certainly be cheering for the Red Sox tonight. I feel good about the situation vs the Yankees with 13 games to go, but we could very much use that extra game lead against the Yanks by the Sox winning tonight..

Red Sox already lost 2 games of ground to us this weekend, would be nice if the Yanks could lose one.

Magic number could go down to 4 in the next hour.. Rangers and Mets are tied.

All of a sudden the AL has become a 4 team race for 3 spots -- Red Sox, Astros, Mariners, and Rangers are all very close to each other.

And the Mets have totally imploded. The San Francisco Giants who sold some players at the deadline, might sneak into the playoffs with an 82-80 record the way the NL is going.

The NL has some really good teams - Milwaukee, Los Angeles, Philly and San Diego (and there pen). After that its not strong with Chicago having performance and injury issues, and Mets/Giants/Reds.

People forget that Varland was also terrible in the 2024 Season. He had an ERA of 7.61 over 16 Games. He had a good couple of months in 2025, but has reverted to what he was in 2024, and even 2023 when he sucked also.

He wasnt a reliever back then so nobody really cares that much about those numbers

Who cares if he was a Reliever or not. Varland's numbers were atrocious in 2024, and not good in 2023 also. So, if you want to disregard those numbers that is fine. Look at his numbers with the Jays, especially this past 5 weeks. They are absolutely garbage, and Varland should be the guy sent down to Buffalo in my opinion.

Borucki is great against LHB but absolutely unplayable against RHB. With the 3 batter minimum, pitchers like him aren't that valuable, IMO. Fluharty is a much better option than him, and if the Jays need a lefty at some point this season then I'm fine with Flu being the one they go to. I hope Borucki pitching 2 innings today means he's the one gone for Yesavage, but after the Fisher demotion a few weeks ago, I'm not taking anything for granted.

Lmao theyre not totally irrelevant but your pitch mix and usage/velocity can change a lot when coming out of the pen. He wasnt throwing 100 mph fastballs as a starter. Theres plenty of guys that cant start and end up finding roles as relievers because they can throw harder. Jeff Hoffman used to be a started himself. Id probably keep Varland up just because the stuff is there and hope he can put it together.
