Still remember expecting Shump to break out year 3 and become a real solid second scoring option after Melo. He basically had one scoring out break against the spurs and that was it. Not really sure why I was so convinced he was going to make a leap that year but it was def the genuine consensus among Knicks fans that it was going to happen. He ended up shooting below 40% for the season and his entire career. Not really sure there was more offensive potential to squeeze out of him. His lack of development kinda killed the rest of the Melo era.

How the mighty have fallen when a franchise will retire a number of a player that accomplished the monumental apex of....one playoff series win.

In a playoff run where the most memorable play was them getting stuffed at the rim that effectively ended the season for the team.

People don't want to admit it because they liked his talent but he had a selfish mentality.

In the end he accomplished almost nothing of note here. We won 1 playoff series. That was it.

I don't look back fondly at all the Melo years. All of them were extremely forgettable except for the one season where we signed the 1998 All Stars Rasheed, Kidd, Camby and Kurt.

The jersey retirement should be held for people who left a lasting impact on our organization or else it loses its meaning. Because if you retire Melo you might as well retire Bernard King, Latrell Sprewell, Allan Houston, Anthony Mason and Charles Oakley.
