It is not pretty, but to start this year, the name of the game is to win whenever and wherever you can. Maybe we can cobble something together against Arizona next week.

They kind of made it necessary themselves with falling off after the 1st quarter, but the defense is now 2-0 with closing out games this season with big plays at the end.

Haha.

Patterson said last week that we might need gallons of Maalox this season. But if the W's keep coming, I'm good with that. :D

I think that was just a 4-man rush. Huff just got off the ball there. Need Mykel Williams to develop those kinds of moves.

Defense was just okay. Gave up 100 yards to Kamara and the young DBs were shaky, though one of the illegal contact calls against #20 on the Saints last TD drive was bogus.

But I'm wary about how those DBs will perform in one on one coverage against better WRs and a more experienced QB. IN the first quarter, Green was playing bump and run and he was running with Olive and other Saints WRs but he didn't look back. I think he got one PI.

Matt Jones played great. But the pass protection was really good after the first drive or two. Pass blocking was much better than last week and the Saints didn't blitz that much.

Seems like the 49ers should have won this more handily though Rattler played very well too. Pass rush was missing until the 4th quarter.

Nice game by Jones yesterday. Was on the move yesterday and could not spend much time on the game thread. Didn't want to jinx it during the game and say Jones was playing well. Gives some confidence the 49ers could be in good hands in Jones has to play more.

PFF scores from yesterday. Surprise Mack Jones scored that low. I wonder how they calculate these scores.

Pretty solid grades for the Niners' offense, apparently. 60 is basically baseline for the PFF grading scale, so Jones was right about there. I'm assuming they credited him with several of the sacks, including the one resulting in the fumble. Couldn't sustain drives throwing late in the game. I would still think he would have scored higher with the three TDs and some nice passes, but it's not a shocking score.

Bottom line is that our much maligned O-line played a good game and Jones seemed to have more time to throw than Purdy did in week one. And our secondary needs to play better. Our linebackers played great with Warner playing at his customary All-Pro level and Dee Winters doing a good Dre Greenlaw imitation, including violent tackles, athleticism and a roughness penalty that cost us 15 yards.

Yeah, Saints' interior DL is decent against the run, but they don't have much in the pass rush department. Cards have a really deep DL - though probably not the front-line talent of Seattle - so next week will be more of a test.

The pressure rate from the Saints yesterday was 14%. Week one against Seattle was over 50%
