Burrow tempted fate when he boasted that the Bengals' window to contend would last as long as he's on the team.

People liked the cockiness but do they like his brittleness?

It’s far too early. Peyton manning looked awful early also.

My biggest issue is he can’t throw from the pocket. He’s great on the run but he’s very uncomfortable in a clean pocket

The thing with Peyton though, he had bloodline. 3.5 year starter at Tennessee (had to share those snaps with good old Todd Helton). Finished in top 10 of Heisman voting his last 3 years (2nd his senior year). And he was 6’5 with a big arm (arm started to go away with all the back and neck injuries). If there was a QB to be patient with, it was Peyton.

JJ was a hand off merchant in college. Never had a season where he even threw 3k yards. Is small, long delivery, average at best arm strength.

I would be much more willing to stick it out for a few years and ride with the inaccurate throws if he had some untapped potential.

But I’ve seen this QB before, it’s the same type of QB Minny always takes. Small QB with below average to average physical traits. Watched this with Ponder, watched it with Checkdown Teddy.

As a Vikings fan, it’s just engrained into me that they will never be able to draft a QB. My patience for QBs falls even quicker when we’re dealing with the below average to average physical trait QBs.

It’s only his second start.

Would you rather that the Vikings paid Darnold? They better take advantage of the kid being on a rookie contract.

I thought they said he showed pretty good measurables in the combine and private workouts. He was rising in that draft class.

If I were to rank them.

Rodgers
Darnold
Daniel Jones
JJ

This was a 14 win team last year. They improved their line (hopefully when it’s healthy) and also added Jordan Mason to the offense.

This roster is built to win now. It’s very old and lacks depth. It really is meant for a 1-2 year shot to try and win. Give me Rodgers on a 1 year deal. Give me Darnold with another summer with this coaching staff (plus his deal is essentially just a 2 year deal with Seattle). Or give me Daniel Jones who is showing he can at minimum run a coherent offense.

So far out of 8 quarters, I think you can make an argument that 7 of the 8 quarters have been some of the ugliest offense we’ve seen from a KOC team. That includes Josh Dobbs and Nick Mullens getting starts.

I just don’t see anything from JJ, or especially how KOC is calling these games that I think this team is anywhere close to a playoff team.

KOC punted the ball away down 2 possessions on a 4th and 1 with about 9 minutes to go. I’ve never seen KOC practically raise the white flag in a close game like that. That and how he’s called 7 out of the 8 quarters, is basically all I need to know that KOC has very very little faith in JJ right now.

Haha my thought as well.

An “ankle sprain” that isn’t long term or serious. Almost like they felt like they needed to take him out to stop the avalanche.

Also I won’t be shocked if this “ankle sprain” begins to linger if Wentz steps in and looks decent-solid

Just saw it’s now a 2-4 week timeline for JJ. Maybe it’s legit, if so. 1 preseason game, tears his meniscus. 2 regular season games and he’s already going to miss a 1/4 of the season.

Hey at least Dallas Turner got a sack last night!!!

I guess these FRP QB prospects are no longer so valuable that they're ready to bail on them early.

The Colts have pretty much given up on Richardson, after parts of 2 seasons, just 15 total games!

Steichen must have decided that he is not going to go down with Richardson, so he's trying to win now.

The Colts are 2-0 but nobody really expects them to contend -- we will see where they are in December. So they didn't want to give Richardson the reps to see if he became a franchise QB, it's win now?

Vikings aren't there yet with McCarthy unless the owner and front office are pressuring KOC to win now.

I think it's legit only because Cincy has arguably the worst defense in the league (100% worst secondary in the league) so this would be a good smash spot for JJ to get back in form. I guess the flip side is if he looks bad against Cincy he's completely cooked in the eyes of the media. Especially with Joe B out.

I dont think they could have given a contract to Rodgers knowing what they know then, he had been abysmal.

Before the season there was lot of talk about other teams offering first rounders as high as Raiders' sixth for JJ. Keeping Darnold and trading would have been the best in hindsight but I dont blame them for not keeping Darnold considering his playoff performances. Probably they wanted someone with a higher ceiling.

Their next game is the following Monday night at home against the Jets.

The Buffalo game is going to be a bloodbath of epic proportions. Even at those odds I think it's a solid bet.

You are telling me this man wont be talking to press anymore? If anything he should be given a lifetime contract and a congressional medal of honor.

We sure don't, especially after he cried until the Bengals paid Chase, Tee, and as he calls him 'Mike G'. Like heck all that, go get offensive lineman, and not Orlando Brown Jr, that dude is cooked.

4 weeks makes sense.

Bengals
Europe game
Another Europe game
Bye week

They'll see if Wentz can do any better if not maybe back to jj before one more phantom injury and tank the season.

Did they really expect to contend with a first year starter at QB?

If the rest of the roster is too old and expensive to go through development of a young QB, maybe they should have kept Darnold no matter what.

They have to choose a lane, develop McCarthy or contend with a vet QB who's shown he can win games.
