2000s Draft Redux - Semi - MadNess* vs Snakebites

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups. Once the writeups are posted, I will add a poll, and the team with the most votes after 24 hours will advance. EACH MANAGER SHOULD ALSO VOTE FOR THEIR OWN TEAM IN THE POLL - IF YOU FAIL TO DO THIS, YOU ARE SIMPLY GIVING AWAY A VOTE. If the votes are tied, we will decide the matchup via AI vote.

You are not required to state or explain your vote, but you are free to comment in the thread if you want to.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

07’-08’ Kobe Bryant 20.6 FGA MVP | All NBA 1 | All NBA D 1 | DPOY (5)
05’-06’ Chauncey Billups 12.5 FGA MVP (5) | All NBA 2 | All NBA 2 | All Star

08’-09’ Lamar Odom 9.0 FGA Champion
02’-03’ Stephen Jackson 10.2 FGA Champion
04’-05’ Reggie Evans 3.5 FGA 9 RPG | Hustle

Write Up:

GL Snake, heck of a team

Plan on playing straight up here on defense: Billups on Mo, Kobe on Eddie, Bowen on Hill, KD on PJ, Deke on Shaq. Think we match up pretty well with Bowen on his best wing and Kobe on his second best wing. Deke will front Shaq with Reggie Evans off the bench giving 6 hard fouls. Deke was defensive player of the year, and this isn’t god season Shaq.

Offensively he has no answers for 25 PPG KD. We will pick and roll a bunch with Kobe/KD and find open shooters like Billups and Bowen. I think knee can also get Shaq in fouls trouble attacking the basket with Kobe and KD.

Overall our bench is significantly better, with 2 legit championship contributors in Odom and SJax.

I think we can check Hill and keep Shaq at bay.

Kobe and KD roll on

C: Shaquille O'Neal 2000-01 19.2 FGA
PF: PJ Brown 01-02 6.6 FGA
SF: Grant hill 99-00 19.2 FGA
SG: Eddie Jones 00-01 13.8 FGA
PG: Mo Williams 08-09 13.9 FGA

B: Doug Christie 02-03 7.0 FGA
B: Terry Porter 01-02 4.5 FGA
B: Kurt Thomas 08-09 3.8 FGA

Shaq (37)/Kurt (11)
Brown (33)/Hill (15)
Hill (23)/Jones (25)
Jones (13)/Christie (35)
Williams (34)/Porter (14)

Alrighty, let’s do this. My phone refreshed and deleted my writeup when I was nearly done and I’m pretty mad, so here’s a shorter version:

My team is built around a fundamentally sound and highly potent duo of Shaq and Hill, a duo similar to the ones Shaq had in real life, but with more talent around them. My backcourt contains two more all stars, and Brown and Christie are perfect defensive glue guys.

Reasons I should win:

1) Shaq was never really impacted by Deke. No disrespect to Deke, but in 2001 (which reflects the years selected for each player), Shaq dominated him for 33/16 in an all time great finals performance. Love Deke, but with rail thin 20 year old KD at the 4 he’s on his own against Shaq and I don’t see him handling it effectively. Shaq goes off.

2) This is not prime KD- this is a talented young player who’s not yet battle tested. He’s only 20 years old here and has never come close to the playoffs. Insert 2017 KD into this series and it looks very different. This version was less polished and played more like a two than a four.

3) Offensive limitation. Bowen and Deke starting means that my defense will be able to key in on the real threats on Ness’s team far more effectively.

Overall I think prime Shaq and Hill pack a better punch than Kobe and year 2 KD, and my supporting cast and depth hold up well here too.
