Joined in 2012 although was regularly perusing from around 2008/09. Since then Reddit has come up as a busy NBA discussion forum but RealGM has always remained the highest quality.

Joined in July 2002, wow that's a crazy long time ago. Still is the best place to be talking NBA.
I remember those draft chats, it was difficult to get in though. Started out with screen name rodman but changed to samwana a few years ago.
I'm mostly on the Bulls board. It was the place to be as a Bulls fan, going through the Jay Williams accident, the crazy amount of 'we to trade for Amare' threads, the Rose injury and lots if other specials. Still love the place. The Giddey threads are special too right now.

Thanks for creating a special place!

2002 class here. Right now is easier since we can check from smartphone, but I remember when I had to arrive to home from college to check some news.

This site probably has the highest concentration of smart people I've found on the internet. There are so many emotional, biased and flat out dumb people on most message boards that it's not even worth engaging. This place restores my faith in humanity. There are still trolls and idiots like anywhere else but it's kept to a minimum and I'm able to learn things from people even when I don't agree with them. Props to whoever keeps this place up to standard.

I think part of it is due to the longevity of the site, as well as its simple layout. The diehards tend to have a brain that applies both logic and common sense when it comes to watching the NBA, and most of those people found their way to these forums.

The General Board can have some trolls, but for the most part, it isn't nearly as bad as social media platforms.

My first post was basically a love letter to the greatness of Kevin Garnett.

Good to see old RealGM alums like Larry Coon and Keith Smith make good!

As you can tell I don't post a lot - but read most days!
Has been a pleasure and hope to enjoy the boards for many more years!

I've been lurking since late 2000's before joining.
I mostly check the general board and while there are all sort of opinions and some thread I enjoy, I think it's unfortunately following the general "social media" trend with more and more negative, extreme and polarizing takes/opinions. Every player has to be the GOAT or "the most overrated ever" and posters are taking the latest game/playoff round to justify these extreme and unnuanced takes.

I also check a few team boards on which I think the opinions are more nuanced and reasonable, due to at least everybody supporting the same team I guess (except the Knicks board which is a thing of its own I think  , but from what I understood as an European, it's expected from New Yorkers  )

It's still way better than the modern social media though, props to the mods for their work.

A MAX contract was about $17 or so mill, MLE was $5 mill, post play was still a very important weapon to an offense, defense still mattered. You never saw trades where teams were surrendering 4 1st rounders. Stars played 80 games and managed to not get hurt all the time. NBA fans were more of a niche audience not nearly as many bandwagon fans.

Even going back 15 years, 2010 finals. IIRC both teams only reached 100 points once in a 7 game series! You had to fight for baskets. Now the inflation is way too much.

Yep they didn't start keeping a counter until like 2012 or 2013. Prior to that you almost never saw more than 1 and1 for any post
