Re: Official 2025 Offseason Thread 2.0
I feel like the early season rotation is going to be 10-deep.
Suggs/Bane/Franz/Paolo/Carter start
Tyus/Black/TDS/Isaac/Goga as the backups
And then the green goblins are Jase/Jett/Penda/Moritz (until he's healthy) - and then the two-way guys.
But I'd suspect at least one of Bane/Franz/Paolo will be on the floor at all times as they set up their rotations.

Can't wait for the season to start. That's potentially a very competitive team.... Top to bottom!

I mean if they stay reasonably healthy, it certainly feels like they could be really good.

And when they need fillers.... I'd be excited to see any of those " green goblins" on any given night.
This is why I saw no big deal if we went into the season with 14 signed contracts. The depth is impressive. And if we need fill ins... Two way-players get called up. Praying that this season is a healthy one

Coach has made it clear that either F-Wagner or Banchero will be on the court at all times. The basic plan is they play together 20 mpg, and then 10mpg each with the other on the bench. In practice that leaves only about 8 minutes per game with neither on the court.
I guess we should hope for M-Wagner to get healthy quickly so that he and Jones can be the bench-sparks.

Re: Official 2025 Offseason Thread 2.0
One thing I'm looking forward to is how much easier Tyus makes life for AB.
Tyus should shrink the decision tree for AB. Fewer dribbles with quicker touches, shots and drives coming off the catch, and playmaking coming from second-side actions.
This should represent a massive offensive jump for AB with no impact on his defense.

so...now he's NOT a PG?
we're bringing in an ultra-efficient throwback pass-first PG to help AB

*all kidding aside, I'd be really excited to see AB soak up everything Tyus shows him...with AB's size and defense - whoa!

Pretty hard to imagine he's the lead initiator next to Tyus.Skybox wrote:eyriq wrote:One thing I'm looking forward to is how much easier Tyus makes life for AB.

Uhhh... do we do hockey substitution? Any of the Bane Wagner PB are primary go to scorers while Tyus and Sugss are scorers by default so... big chances are 2 of them are at the court at any time

Depending on his health, that is our bench go-to-scorer right there. lol

I’ll keep saying it: I think Jase will have a bigger role than we think. Maybe later in the season. We’ll appreciate his scoring.

I was always a Tyus fan after the championship at Duke. I think he brings a winning mindset and may be the best backup PG in the NBA.

Well if we're acknowledging that...I don't know what it says for AB's career path. He's an ideal complement defensively, but it's not like he's an appropriate backcourt mate (on the offensive end) for a pass-first PG. Is AB basically Rodman in the wrong decade?

That sucks. I really wish he’d stay around in the NBA. I wanted to see him with any team.

Tyus provides space and pace and organizes the start of plays. AB will enjoy simpler reads and get cleaner shots. Extra catch-and-shoots and rhythm drives instead of late-clock bailouts should yield significant improvements in efficiency and scoring. AB will still get playmaking reps through second side touches.
It's a one-year rental while AB develops into the pointguard he was drafted to be. New skill coaches and cleaner touches should make AB a dark horse 6th man of the year candidate.

The whole discussion line on "who will be the third-string SG" is clearly not a priority question for management.
The Magic has an excellent starting five in: Bane, Suggs, F-Wagner, Banchero, and Carter.
And a very strong bench in Jones, Black, da Silva, Isaac, and Bitadze.
So yes, the deep bench is a little thin in only Richardson/Howard/Penda (as M-Wagner is out), but teams strong up top are always weak down low.
Let me reform my thoughts: if Richardson/Howard/Penda get ANY playing time this season, there is a larger roster problem with the Magic.
In the immortal words of former-GM Smith, I LIKE THIS TEAM.
I think Richardson and Penda might some mins

I don’t think it’s necessarily because we need them to win games. I feel like Pena and Richardson could earn themselves mins during the course of the season. They may not get mins at the beginning of the season but may get mins towards the end.

I'm SUPER high on Jase but I'm not sure he'll get much burn this season unless we see a serious amount of injuries again. I can definitely see the FO letting Tyus walk next summer depending on Jase's development though.
