Guard Dennis Smith Jr. has agreed to a one-year deal to return to the Dallas Mavericks, agent Daniel Hazan of Hazan Sports Management tells ESPN. Smith reunites with the franchise that drafted him No. 9 overall in 2017 and now he'll compete in training camp in Dallas.

He was having a nice season a couple of years ago before injuries. This is a pretty solid gamble by Dallas.

Decent signing at least on the defensive end. Could have done worse than DLo, Exum, Williams and now DSJ while Kyrie recovers. At the very least serves as a defensive guard insurance if Exum misses time which he’s had a track record of doing.

It's just a gesture towards him and his agent, no chance they dump someone for him, they have no roster spots and no room below the Apron.
Defense wins draft lotteries!

I thought he turned into a good d (but unfortunately not 3) role player towards the end of his last NBA tenure. Would rather have him on my roster than Bagley (just one possible example).

This is exact dumbass signing I always complain about. Resigning same high lottery busts over and over again, who proven to suck even in overseas leagues, instead of actually scouting and trying to bring someone fresh. We know this guy sucks, but GMs know he exists cause he was in the NBA once, so he gets the chance, again... NBA front office is seriously a fake job, they get paid to do basically nothing it seems, I seriously do not know what they are doing on daily basis, this is pathetic and embarrassing. Like any dumbass could make this signing, it does not require any basketball or front office skill whatsoever.

He was actually a good NBA player at Charlotte and had his best year. Where he was a great defender
Then he went to the nets and was weirdly **** and couldn't care as he might accidentally impact winning, worst decision to take 2 years and more money then going again at Charlotte where he had a defined role
Glad he's got half a chance
