Skenes pulled after 5 innings, 64 pitches. 2 hits, 8K. They figure he has the CY, now limit his usage. Makes sense.

I have nothing against Stearns. He did a good job here. He left to work for the team that he grew up a fan of. And what GM wouldn't love a huge checkbook? But I would LOVE seeing them flame out and miss the playoffs. Currently a half game up on the Giants, 1.5 on the Reds.

Giants now tied with the Mets. Reds 1 game back. Both play later tonight.

Reds have tiebreaker over Mets
Mets have tiebreaker over Giants
Reds and Giants split

Padres not inspiring me to think they will knock out the Cubs. Cubs can pretty much rest up next week if they choose to concede the division. I dont know, feels like we’re heading for a Cubs/Brewers NLDS which will leave me in extreme happiness or sadness….no in between. Would love to knock them off BUT absolutely worst case is to get knocked out by them too.

Crazy to think he started in 2008. Seems like another lifetime ago. Guessing he is easily a 1st ballot HOF player.

NL playoff picture pretty much set barring a cold week from the Mets, but the AL is getting pretty interesting. Cleveland is on a heater and within 1.5 of the last wild card spot and also making Detroit play the season out. Seattle has won 9 of 10 and is tied with Houston for the West, plus both teams within 1 game of 2 seed (Detroit) BUT are also only a game ahead of Boston for 6 seed and Cleveland is within 2 games in loss column of knocking one of them completely out.

The AL is fun. Seattle and Houston face each other this weekend in Houston. They are tied 5-5. Seattle then faces the Rockies and Dodgers at home. Dodgers may or may not have something to play for. The Astros finish on the road at A's and Angels.

Boston has the tiebreaker over Cleveland. They have a rained out game though against each other that may have to be played. So they may have to play the Monday after the season ends and the winner start the WC round the next day. That game would be in Boston.

I remember early in Kershaw's career there was a poster named Cinematographer here or at another forum who claimed Kershaw > Koufax based on some of the newer FIP-y and BABIP-y metrics.

I'm biased toward the old-timers, but Kershaw, as good as he was and an easy choice for the HOF, couldn't wash Koufax's sanitary socks.

I think this requires a limerick! I'm not gonna write one though, I'll just say I always enjoyed watching him and the Dodgers choke in the postseason frequently.
We watched the tragedy unfold. We did as we were told, we bought and sold. It was the greatest show on Earth...but then it was over.
