I am not a fan of Tim Connelly’s off-season. We are hoping that Terrence Shannon Jr, Jaylen Clark and Dillingham can step up to help cover the loss of Nickiel Alexander-Walker. However, unlike many of our rivals, we didn’t get any legitimate rotation bench players in free agency. When we miss on a guy like Malcolm Brogdan, we’re quick to say, “oh, we didn’t need him anyway, he’s cooked,” but if we got him, we’d be happy about it. The team still has two big holes at back up center and back up PG. Sure, we only had vet mins to offer, but many decent players signed vet min deals elsewhere, and there was opportunity to come here as a free agent, and be on a contender to raise a player’s stock.
Our free agent acquisitions: Joe Ingles, Bones Hyland
Here are our rival’s acquisitions
DAL: DLo, Dennis Smith Jr
DEN: Bruce Brown, Tim Hardaway Jr, Valanciunas, Cam Johnson
GSW: Al Horford, DeAndre Melton waiting to sign after Kuminga
HOU: Clint Capela, Dorian Finney-Smith
LAC: Brad Beal, Brook Lopez, Chris Paul
LAL: Ayton, Marcus Smart
Yeah, I know we didn’t have the room to sign free agents, and used our limited financial flexibility to keep Naz and Randle. But many of these guys are vet mins signing, and we just didn’t bring anyone here.
