Leave him out if we need space still for Demar Derozan.

Speaking of Demar, they’re probably in the same tier in terms of overall talent. George gives you a bit more defense whereas Demar gives you durability and toughness.

If he is the HOF is a waste of space

Talent wise they’re in the same tier. Number wise they give you approximately the same. Both can’t lead as the first or perhaps second option (unless team is super deep with an elite 3rd). Same tier like it or not.

No, they are not at all in the same tier. Not even close.

Yes, they are somewhat similar numbers-wise ON OFFENSE, but the difference is that Paul George's game is better suited to play alongside other stars because he can play off ball and space the floor. Since you admit that neither guy can be the lead option, then Paul George is much better than Derozan in their ideal role as a #2 option. Which is why Paul George has had much more success.

But even more importantly, the gap between the two players on defense is MASSIVE. Paul George was a 4-time All-Defensive player. Derozan is a known defensive sieve.

*In Toronto* He got better post Toronto. I don’t know why he had no dog in him on the Raptors. I’m a defensive first guy so yeah it bothered me. Aside from that, I do feel Derozan is more clutch with game on the line.

Either way.. My point is PG like Demar shouldn’t be in the HOF.

The RealGM top 100 project ranked Paul George as the 72nd best player of all time, and I think that's about right. The Bleacher Report ranks him 78th. If you want to argue that the HOF should be so exclusive that a top 75-ish player shouldn't get in, that's fine. But Paul George deserves it more than a lot of other greats like Dominque, Worthy, Rodman and Dantley who are already in the Hall.

And Derozan is way lower on the list because he wasn't a winning player. The guy has played 16 years and has only won 4 playoff series.

Just a month ago people were making a case for Tracy McGrady to Kobe Bryant with coulda woulda shouldas. Now we have to take winning into consideration between PG and DeMar. Both past the first round (DeMar 4 times and PG 7 times) but never got it done or even made it the finals. Also, as soon as they’re traded their former teams got better (Raptors chip, OKC chip and Pacers finals). As far as I’m concerned they’re in the same tier group.

Yeah, the Thunder and Pacers making the Finals 6 and 8 years respectively after trading PG13 away definitely proves he was holding them back.

The guy who won with Demars former team colluded with PG and he still couldn’t get it done. I’m giving DeMar extra credit for not doing that nonsense.

It's not just winning. It's production that leads to winning. I already posted how Paul George had a positive on/off differential in every year of his career, while DeRozan's was negative for most of his career.

I am a Derozan fan, but George is better than Derozan by pretty much every metric on both sides of the court.

And it's laughable you are saying George's team got better as soon as they were traded! George got traded from Indiana in 2017, and Indiana was an average team for the next few years and made the finals 8 years later in 2025. George was traded from OKC in 2020, and OKC made the finals 5 years later after being a lottery team for multiple years.

You cannot say that making the finals 5 years later and 8 years later is "as soon as they're traded." Indiana and OKC did not get better right away, they weren't good for several years before they both made trades, rebuilt, got good draft picks and then got better. OKC won 48 games the year before George left. They won 44 games the next year because they added a superstar in CP3, and once CP3 got traded again, they sucked for the next 3 years straight.

Not to mention he was the best player on two conference finalists that came reasonable close to breaking through. Take Sidney Moncrief, for instance. I am a big Moncrief guy and although he was the guy on three conference finalists (though you could argue that it was a 1A/1B situation with Marques in 83/84 and given his playoff injury woes in 1986, you could reasonably argue that Pressey/Cummings were more important), he won two games in three such series.
George was also 1B on another conference finalist and he did pick up the slack in the playoffs when Kawhi got injured. There are many players in the HoF that were the best player on a conference finalist team once (not to mention a slew who cannot claim even that).

I think it's seriously time to rework the criteria to be in the HOF.

For **** sake PG is more known for his blunders than anything else.

On second consideration, yeah, I agree that Dominique was better. I had forgotten that he had four seasons when he was a top 6 finisher in MVP voting. George only had one season like that.

George was definitely better than Rodman, Worthy and Dantley.

Not at all. As others have mentioned Chris Webber is in there. Chris Mullins. So many 60's Celtics. Some awful choices like Earl Monroe. He's not just an easy choice, but a first ballot guy.

He'll be in the discussion for one of the weaker players in the hall, minus the guys that are in just for college, as pioneers, etc.

Again no. He's a 9x allstar and 6x all nba, while being an elite defender. He's squarely in the top half of guys in.
