Honestly I really like that they clinched the wild card right before an off day. Now there's no risk of an off-game the day after post-clinch celebrations.

Magic number is now at 4, so we just have to take care of business at home (win both series) and we don't even have to scoreboard watch the Yankees.

I don't like these random scrub teams, like Seattle and Cleveland, getting hot before the playoffs.

Getting into the playoff was inevitable
Now to get the division and possible bye
Jays need 4-2 or better to win division no matter what Yankees do
If Yanks go 5-1. Jays win division with 3-3 record
If Yanks go 4-2. Jay win division with 2-4 record
Magic number is 4

Red Sox division win is mathematically possible but it will take total collapse of both Jays and Yanks

Lmao at the Astros and Tigers. Detroit has to be one of the worst collapses I've ever seen.

My hot takes
We wrap up the division Weds after winning first two games from Red Sox.
Yankees will commit 15 errors and lose their next two games
Santander will be called up and homers in his 1st game as DH

So your hot take assumes the Yankees are losing 2 straight games to the White Sox?

I wouldn't call the Mariners a scrub team. They are the current betting favourite to win the AL pennant. 4 really good starting options (Woo, Gilbert, Castillo, Kirby) and a potent lineup due to the Suarez and Naylor additions at the deadline to an extisting offensive core of Raleigh, Julio Rodriguez, Randy Aroz.

They played well after the deadline, and then inexplicably went on a long slump after that. Now they are rolling again.

Add the New York Mets in the NL.

They were 76-65 and had a 4 game lead for the Wildcard spot.
Since then they have went 4-11, and are now tied with the Reds for that last Wildcard Spot.

Next up on the "Clinch" tree is Wildcard Spot #1 (which entitles you to 3 home games in the first round). That could come as early as Tuesday.

Boston down 6-3 in the 8th, and about to fall to 85-71. The best Boston and Houston could do is 91-71, so they pretty much have to win every game moving forward.

Houston can only win 90. If the Jays beat Boston on Tuesday, they clinch the 4 seed.

Toronto is
- 11-8 in September
- 8-5 in its last 13 games
- was 2.5 games up on September 1 with 25 games to go, and is now 2.0 games up on September 22nd with 6 games to go.

Its been frustrating at times, and there is no certainty we win this division, but it hasn't been this big failure (so far)

in the end, beating a team like Boston will be needed to be done in the playoffs so this series should be no different. Go take care of things at home.

We have the tiebreaker so technically it's 3 games up.

If the Jays win the East, then it definitely will happen on Friday. Rogers giving Apple TV an extra game for no reason hasn't gone unnoticed by the Baseball Gods.

Mariners are the best team in the AL IMO. J-Rod, Raleigh, Arozarena, Suarez is a formidable top 4 in the lineup. Their starting pitchers are also way better than ours.

You are correct in that regard.

My point was more that while some say, "the Yanks are a lock to win the division", "We will be lucky to finish 2nd", "We are having a historic collapse", we have managed to lose a whole 0.5 game in the month of September. And had decent records at the same time.

I feel like the MLB should change the rule about being able to change your roster after each round.

Or, at very least, the the wildcard round and the division series round should share the same roster.

Yeah - every team in the AL is flawed. If we had a couple really reliable relievers we would have run away with it.

Also, if the offense could store more than 1 run per game without Bo.

yup that's unlikely but with 15 errors unlikely.... methinks op is just making fun of the bad defensive play we've seen from yankees this year.
