The "inconclusive so can't overturn" reasoning, is total hogwash.

#1. There is literally an angle where you can see the ball at all times, except possibly the first few hundredth's of a second when caught.

#2. If you combine angles / combine views, you can easily find views that show the ball is in possession at all times..

If that was called a trap for the NYY, MLB would be issuing apologies right now through the media and saying what a massive mistake it was

Definitely wouldn’t be justifying it with nonsense “explanations” that make no sense to anybody capable of watching video

MLB has a vested interest in teams like NYY and LAD going further in the playoffs, it’s the difference in millions and millions of dollars for the league. It should never be a surprise when things like this have a habit of going their way in the biggest moments.

No false equivalence. I needed to explain what I meant more. You are correct that every MLB team celebrates a playoff berth. The point I am trying to make is how come you do not see a NHL or NBA team celebrating a playoff berth (even an 8th seed)?

The answer is because it is ridiculous. It is ridiculous the Jays have a Wild Card 2020, 2022, and 2023 Banner hanging at the Rogers Centre when they did not win a single playoff game. I understand it is baseball tradition, but not necessarily something I am a fan of. The celebrations should be for winning divisions, pennants and World Series just like other sports. Not for a chance to compete in a "Wild Card series". Just my opinion.

No, the answer is due to history and tradition (and less teams making the playoffs in MLB) if you really want to get down to it

Either way, it’s really secondary to the idea that there’s literally no harm in doing so for this particular team. They’ve been choking for an entire week before this. How much worse can they really play?

As you said, they have been playing bad. The "hope" is this gives them that big exhale of stress and relaxes them a bit for the next 6 games where they might need to win at least 3 of them.

Nothing wrong with good vibes today/tomorrow.

Hell, they might have to win 4 of them (which they are totally capable of, just have to play way better baseball than the past week) but let’s hope the Yankees find a way to blow one or two this week against the trash Sox and trash Birds

At this point, a tip of the cap is in order for the front office, coaches and players of the Blue Jays. I had no expectation of a playoff spot and definitely never expected the Jays to be in first place going into the last week of the season.

Congrats all around for a season that has been very entertaining and exceeded all my expectations.

Agreed. I didn't have high hopes for this team coming into the season, but winning 90+ games and possibly a division title doesn't happen often for this franchise. Credit where credit is due.

I am in favour of not letting the replay center in New York know what the on-field call was before they review the replay. Let them make an unbiased decision without knowing the umpire’s call.

If that was MLB’s policy, I’ll guarantee that Varsho’s outfield play would have been ruled a “catch” 10 times out of 10.

Just watching the game now... that was a catch.

The camera angle from behind in left center field clearly showed he had it the entire time. I can forgive the umpires for the initial call but that 100% should have been overturned by the replay center

I'm fine with umpires as well. Also good with the "inconclusive" reasoning WHEN APPROPRIATE.

This was not inconclusive. One angle pretty much showed it all, and you could combine what you see in various angles to reach a clear conclusion (a technique used in all sports reviews). It was garbage.

Shouldn't have been that close. Better read and an ability to stay on your feet makes it an easy play. Makes sense to stay with the call on the field - another 3 runs given up on the ledger. Maybe the Jays should consider playing the better CF to play CF.

Whichever non-me person does it first, since we lost our last series.

We've had a lot of reviews go our way this year, including against the Yankees. Like I've been saying, it depends on whether the guy doing the review that day is a Yankees or Mets fan.

Really, the review centre should just be in a neutral city/state.

I recall being surprised in 2015 when if memory serves the Jays had a big celebration after clinching the playoffs, then a few games later for the division, then the first round. I probably have the order of things mixed up or maybe it was just two times not three. And I think it was similar in 2016. I had kind of tuned out of baseball for a decade or so before 2015, and didn't remember such celebrations being a thing. Not sure when it became commonplace. Or maybe the TV cameras just didn't cover the clubhouse as much in the past.
