Brewers Clinch Third Consecutive NL Central Title

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Sep 22, 2025 2:32 am

The Milwaukee Brewers clinched their third consecutive NL Central division title after the Chicago Cubs fell 1-0 to the Cincinnati Reds, securing Milwaukee\'s playoff berth despite mounting injury concerns.

The Brewers became the second National League team to clinch a division title, following Philadelphia\'s NL East championship. At 95-61, Milwaukee sits 2½ games ahead of the Phillies for baseball\'s best record with one week remaining in the regular season.

Milwaukee has virtually secured one of the NL\'s top two seeds, guaranteeing a first-round playoff bye. If the Brewers finish with the league\'s best record, they would earn home-field advantage throughout the NL playoffs and World Series.

The division title comes amid significant late-season injuries to Milwaukee\'s pitching staff. The Brewers placed Brandon Woodruff on the 15-day injured list with a strained lat before Sunday\'s series finale against St. Louis.

Woodruff\'s injury eliminates him from the remainder of the regular season and jeopardizes his postseason availability. Earlier this week, Milwaukee also placed Jose Quintana on the 15-day IL with a calf strain, ruling him out for the regular season and potentially October.

Beyond Woodruff and Quintana, the Brewers continue to play without closer Trevor Megill, who has not recovered from his right flexor strain. Reliever DL Hall remains sidelined while recovering from an oblique strain.

The first-round bye will prove critical for Milwaukee\'s injury-depleted roster. The extra rest could allow several pitchers to return for the division series, which begins in early October.

Despite the Cubs\' late-season surge to reclaim division contention, Milwaukee maintained its lead throughout September. The Brewers\' third consecutive division title establishes them as the NL Central\'s dominant franchise and positions them for another deep playoff run.
