Well, Derrick White’s a significant upgrade even over a healthy VanVleet and Houston has plenty of valuable assets that wouldn’t affect their current window at all. Why not go for it? I’m not saying give the Celtics anything they want, but FVV, 2 firsts, and a young player for White? Why not give that a chance?

Can you be specific? What young player? Tari Eason? Also, the Celtics are capped themselves. Try it on Fanspo, it's just not a simple swap and not something you do in the late summer anyway.

I’d hold on to Tari Eason, I like him too much. Maybe offer up Cam Whitmore or Jabari Smith. If salary’s an issue, you can easily involve a 3rd team.

It wouldn’t be a midsummer trade. It won’t be legal until mid-December. That gives the Rockets plenty of time to find out if Amen can run the show and the Celtics plenty of time to get disillusioned with their current squad.
Cam Whitmore plays for the Wizards lol

Devastating loss for Houston. Not sure where they grab a veteran point guard at this point.

The Rockets can stay afloat for a little while, but I think in December they'll have to start looking at trades. Amen/Reed can eventually fill that role but they're not there on a contending team. Fred was super important to keeping these kids dialed in. Maybe he can still do it from the sidelines.

Hate injuries. Speedy recovery to Fred. I think Amen Thompson might be the defacto PG. Reed Sheppard, time to step up.

I mean, ideally they just slot Reed in as the starting PG? Surprised so many are talking veteran PGs, he was the #3 pick, like, I get you don’t wanna just give the job, but this is an opportunity for him to get significant minutes, why wouldn’t they just roll with that? I mean, constantly looking for guys to split minutes with him, compete, yea, that works for some. But it could also go the Kuminga route where you constantly are pushing the guy to earn minutes and have no idea what you have with him now.

Like, you drafted him 3rd overall, you gotta have some faith in him probably, right?

Do the Rockets gave some good draft picks to trade? I’d love to blow things up at GSW. Imagine the Rockets youth with Steph running the show.

Injury exception and draft capital to Chicago for Ayo Dosunmu* might work well for both teams.

The Rockets are apparently in love with him offensively, but you don’t play for Ime unless you can really D up, and Reed is a disruptive and instinctive defender but can be targeted on match-ups due to size…amazing hands, though. That’s really where the Fred model imo works, I think the idea is for him to get a lot stronger. Obviously at this point that will have to be accelerated, but if he’s not there yet on D his draft status won’t mean anything. If he is still wearing a target they’ll likely go with Amen and he’ll be O off the bench. The thing is who plays the 2 then; again Cam would be great to have. DFS or Tari I guess, but both are better higher up.

Again, though, need to emphasize that other aspects matter; Fred is the team’s brain. Jalen was its heart, his teammates universally loved him, but Fred was the undisputed boss, and basically runs practices. Now they’re both gone and it’s going to feel very different out there. It might be ok depending on Reed and Amen’s development. Or it might get ugly, a loaded team hamstrung by one acute weakness.

Dallas has a bunch of players they'll need to get rid of at some point. Houston should hit them up.

That would be one hell of a plot twist.

Was hoping the Rockets would give OKC a good challenge... not sure it can happen without FVV balling out. We'll now quickly find out how good Reed really is.

Brogdon is always a week away from an extended injury. If he's you're replacement, you still need help.

Fair enough.

He is expensive.

Sucks Vred got hurt, might be tough to get an adequate replacement at a discount.

They’ll likely start Amen at PG and move Eason or DFS into the starting lineup.

DFS, Capela and a the minimum salary players can be traded on December 15.

They’ll see what they have and then make a move at that point if they need to.
