DET/HOU/MIA

Post#1 » by vege » Tue Sep 23, 2025 3:14 pm

Detroit Out: Jaden Ivey
Detroit In: Tari Eason

They ballance the roster adding their PF of the future. They start Beasley at SG (if/when he is cleared) and they play LeVert the backup PG minutes with Sasser as insurance.

Houston Out: Reed Sheppard / Tari Eason
Houston In: Jaden Ivey / Nikola Jovic

They replace FVV's shooting with Ivey's shooting (hopping he maintain the hot shooting from last season) and they downgrade from Eason to Jovic but they maintain depth at the Forward spot. They sacrifice Sheppard in the process.

Miami Out: Nikola Jovic
Miami In: Reed Sheppard

They try to get Sheppard to do some of what Herro has been doing, without the pressure he would have in Houston, Miami is fighting for the 6th seed (maybe) while Houston is going for the title. Miami is a much better situation for Sheppard to develop imo.

Miami probably owe Houston a future lotto protected 1st considering Sheppard and Jovic's contract situation.

I dont think Jovic has this value given his contract and that he hasnt done much in a really bad conference/division. I also dont see Houston giving up on Reed especially with FVV out

This is exactly the kind of knee jerk reaction that the Rockets shouldn't do.

Ivey needs to prove last year wasn't a fluke (esp coming off a major injury) before pulling back eason in a trade

This is terrible for Houston. I could see all of Ivey/Eason/Reed being worth around the same, but Jovic is the odd-man out here.

I'd rather roll the dice on Reed Sheppard than Jaden Ivey, personally, but understand I may be in the minority with this.

I assume houston targets as more traditional pg to just competently get them into sets. Ivey has some nice upside left as a scorer and spacer, but houston isn't really looking to replace "a scorer".

Surprised Eason is priced higher than Eason, I have it as the opposite, the Jovic for Sheppard part is wildly off

im just low on ivey coming off a big injury. also need more data on if his 3 pt shot is legit or if it will regress like suggs/barnes/herb jones etc

Still has upside, and has the dysfunctional Pistons excuse, Eason is meh starter, energy defensive wing off the bench, I'd still gamble on Ivey while on rookie deal.

Miami is stealing value. Other than that, pretty solid trade. I like it for Houston, they trade a bench player for a guy who could be more than just a starter while being a solid fit. Trade makes sense for Detroit as well.

Not interested for Miami. What has Reed Sheppard done? We'll keep our 6'11" small forward, thanks.

Did you read my entire post? Do you think the difference between Jovic and Sheppard is higher than a lotto protected 1st?

The Rockets are not going to panic trade their core players.

They can just wait until December 15 when other players are available to trade.

They would not even consider this deal.

Eason is highly unlikely to be PFotF for any team with aspirations of contending. He's best as a bench player, and the Pistons need better shooting at the position in any case.

Haven't you called Holland too small to play PF? He's almost exactly the same height and weight as Eason.

Eason has 3+ inches more wingspan and is a bit heavier

The extra wingspan helps, but it's not going to be the difference between being able to and not being able to play PF. I'd also argue that Holland is a more fluid athlete in general.

If he's still at his listed weight, he's less than five pounds heavier than Holland was as of six weeks ago.

Yeah, Jovic is a depth piece,.Sheppard is 3rd overall who played for a stacked team and didn't get a chance, all.reports indicate they ciew him as a valuable piece still.
