That doesn't add up though. Not going to look too much in jerseys first day of practice but if yabu and Hulu are playing minutes and Hart is the backup wing. Then that leaves Mcbride, Clarkson, and brogdon for 2 spots. If we are to believe shams reporting that brogdon signed here thinking he was making the team and had a rotation spot then who is out of the rotation?

The only real 5th starter on the team is mitch. But that doesn’t help with spacing or playing 5 out. But playing kat at C is terrible for our defense.

Also Deuce, jHart, ect are all bench players.

We definitely helped our bench this offseason but our starting 5 is still messy. The problem is Brunson and kat arent two way players. And the real issue is its hard to win with a big who is a terrible defender.

Why isn’t Deuce starter material? He’s not much smaller in height and wingspan compared to Donovan Mitchell, and his play style and impact is exactly what we need in the starting unit.

I’m good with Brogdon starting if he’s healthy too, based on his experience, shooting, and playmaking.

He seems small for a 2 guard. Even though he is a solid poa defender. But if his shot isnt failing its really problematic. And I think you can get away with a pair of undersized guards when both of them are elite offensive talents which deuce is not. He is best suited as a backup combo guard. Or the bigger issue of starting him on our team is.....

It leaves us weak on the boards and also puts kat as our paint defender where he is atrocious.

We're gonna win a lot of games this year. Hell we can challenge for the ecf. But its going to be frustrating at times watching this team defend.

I don’t necessarily believe both backcourt players have to be elite offensive talents. The Cavs have that, but they lack elite offense at any other position… we have KAT who is elite offense at a different (and probably better) position.

The numbers show we are far better with Deuce in the lineup on both ends in place of Hart and far better than when Mitch is as well.. I’ve posted them a few times in the past (too lazy to dig them up).

The rebounding loss from Hart or Mitch to Deuce can be offset by the plethora of advantages created everywhere else, i.e., 5 out/better 3pt shooting, KAT @ the 5/wing’s not guarding him and opposing 5’s not having the luxury of guarding Hart who won’t shoot, and being able to help out on Jalen, lack of doubles on Jalen, Mikal off POA/Deuce on, Mikal having more ball handling duties with Hart out/p&r with KAT, quicker pace (than with Mitch), etc etc..

KAT (who routinely accidentally fought Hart for rebounds), OG, and Mikal can pick up the slack for the rebounding loss of not having Hart or Mitch start.

So those few boards/second chance opportunities (which might not even be needed with more efficient offense) and rim protection (in Mitch’s case) are the only defenses of having Hart or Mitch start ahead of Deuce. It’s really no comparison imo.

Better defensive schemes (like going switch heavy and staying home/not giving up wide open 3’s) can mitigate the loss of rim protection with Mitch in the starting unit.

If Jalen or KAT are getting annihilated on defense (never really the case in true iso situations… not plays where there’s miscues or they’re forced to recover due to a breakdown elsewhere), then sure we can have Deuce or Mikal fight thru screens here n there… we just can’t have guys like Mikal getting bombarded by them all season again.

Even Kobe said “getting hit by screens is the worst feeling for a guard when you’re guarding the ball”…

In the 65 minutes we saw Mitch starting over Hart in the playoffs, the numbers were:

Offensive Rating: 114.6
Defensive Rating: 118.3
Net Rating: -3.7


In the 41 minutes we saw Deuce with the starters (in place of Hart) during the season, the numbers were:

Offensive Rating: 116.1
Defensive Rating: 112.0
Net Rating: +4.2


Deuce in 84 mins with the starters in place of Bridges:

Offensive Rating: 130.8
Defensive Rating: 96.4
Net Rating: +34.3


Deuce in 64 mins with the starters in place of OG:

Offensive Rating: 128.2
Defensive Rating: 109.2
Net Rating: +19.0




The 61 mins Mitch was with the starters in place of KAT in the playoffs…

I don’t back down from challenges broham..

1 game tho? Brown isn’t Thibs, I’m sure he’ll experiment with different lineups just like he’s doing in practice… the more sensible bet is who ends up being permanent starter. It’d be pretty dumb to “lose” an opening night bet only to have Mitch or Deuce/Brogdon go back to the bench the next game lol.

So let’s lock it in for a week of games after All-Star break… whoever ends up starting more games thru then wins…. Mitch vs Deuce/Brogdon.
