I hear you. This will get and deserve no sympathy but I really miss my house after 3 weeks away on holidays. I still have a week to go too! Hoping my extensive collection of plants and trees are ok, my dad said he'd check in on the place but he's no green thumb.

Was in Madison today for work. Decided to stop by EVP to pick up some coffee beans. Ordered a small cup of their medium roast. The employee filled it up, and as she handed it over, it slipped out of her hand and splashed all over the counter and floor. I just leaped backwards enough to avoid getting more than a few drops on my pants. Oh well, accidents happen. No biggie.

She makes me a new cup, and hands it to me. I get to work, sit at a desk, lift it to take a sip, and the lid flies off and coffee lands all over me. My shirt. My pants. Luckily, it had cooled enough not to burn me. But it's all over me. Tried cleaning it up, but there's nothing much I can do. I'm stuck in coffee-stained clothes until I leave and drive back to Milwaukee. I'm just glad I wasn't in a suit or didn't have an in-person client meeting.

At least the week is half over.

It really is wild how two different series can come to such wildly different conclusions. And each be so certain. The human experience, particularly in regards to perspective and bias, is so much larger than we perceive.

Hadn't heard of this so I just looked it up and listened to the 20 minute long "just the facts" episode. Their conclusion and their thoughts that this was a pretty simple case doesn't really surprise me. I really liked the Serial series but in the last ten years there's been the lingering thought that yea, he probably did it.

Now I want someone to make the 20 minute Defense episode.

LOL I think Serial made a 500 minute defense episode.

I don’t wish ill on anyone. I hope Sayid did not do it. I don’t know him. But yeah, it seems like a pretty straightforward case to me. Ex boyfriend, just found out his ex was dating a new guy, cellphone technology was new (which means all parties misunderstood it) has him more or less in the vicinity and timeline of the murder and burial, and worst of all someone inarguably involved (a scummy guy) turned on him and fed the cops info only a participator could know. And of course cell phone records tie those two guys together most of the whole day. And of course Adnan has no alibi for 90% of the suspected murder and burial time. Nor did he reach out to his ex when he learned she was missing. Woof.

Probably the worst part of true crime is we all think we are experts. I don’t really know anything.

I always felt scummy listening to these podcasts dig up a 20 year old case without any real evidence to show he didn't do it. The poor family and friends are brought back into the spotlight and a bunch of random people wanting to interview and investigate them. If they rightfully got pissed and not want to talk, the true crime podcasters tend to put them in the suspicious category..... All for entertainment for people on their daily drive.

You know what rules? The fancy brand new building you moved into having absolutely insane bug infestations because it's the country and the contractors did a horse-sh*t job. Besides your garden variety little **** bugs that creep in I've got a honest to god millipede infestation coming up through the floor boards and by the porch door. I need to keep rolls of TP in every room because I'm constantly needing to pick these little **** up and flush them away. Tonight's been the worst. Bet I've killed 30 in the last two hours. Landlord swears she's coming to seal everything and replace the doors tomorrow. I"m so mad.

As the weather starts turning cooler they look for warmer places. Hopefully whoever she hires is a professional.

This is the gap in the door to the outside I'm dealing with. You can even see one or two of the little millipede ****.

Half-assed bullsh*t. I just filled the gap with Dawn dish soap. I have no idea if it'll do anything but it makes me feel better.

I gotta find a way to leverage this into something because I shouldn't have to deal with it.

If you live in the country and have any holes in the walls, floor, or door frames it is helpful to fill them with steel wool scrubbing pads. You can jam them in there well enough that they are hard to see. And mice can't chew through them.

As for the bugs, that is a trickier issue. There is wood filler and caulk that you can fill smaller gaps with, but that can become visible and also your landlord could charge you for "permanent alterations." I'd do more research if I were you, because their solution is going to be to hire someone to come in and spray a bunch of toxic chemicals and that could potentially be worse for you than a bug infestation.

We moved out to the country and have had a hell of a time with brown marmorated stink bugs. Like it was terrible. I hated to do it but I had pests control come out every quarter and spray and it's been a different maker. Went from killing 10-20 a day (which you have to be super careful when doing) to maybe 1 every month. You shouldn't have to do it with a landlord, but I'd push her to seal and if it doesn't get better get them to bring in pest control.

Bump. Planning trip next year, although with 2 kids. I'm normally a hotel on points person but most hotels limit to 2 on base rooms. I am completely overwhelmed wading through the thousands of options for airbnbs and booking.com and figuring out the best locations considering the sites, transit, food, etc.

Agreed. But dig out your passport & visit Banff National Park sometime. You won't be disappointed.

Second this. Went in July. Actually staying in Banff (The Marriott Moxy isnt horrible with points/certificates from CCs and we loved that hotel) helps a ton where you get an early start and can stay later at popular spots....and beautiful walking around the town in the evening.

Lake Louise Tips -
We got to lake louise at like 615am and probably had one of the last five parking spots.
The short walk to the other side of the lake eliminates 95% of the crowd and a cool view/muddy beach area.
If you do the Tea House, the line is mostly for to-go. It was odd since you can walk up and get a table, but i dont think most people knew that. Bring cash since their card reader was stretched trying to get service.
Place empties out early, so if you arent a morning person, you can drive right to the front of the parking lot during the evening.

Royal Tyrell - World Class dino museum east of Calgary about 90 minutes. Some cool hiking in that area with badlands to contrast the mountains. Just make sure to prebook any activities. On the way back check to see if there are there are any rodeos in the small towns. We saw some but didnt stay since we were not equipped with the right clothes/kids not mentally prepared.

Glacier Tour - Kind of expensive for what it is. Dont regret doing it, but if you are short of time/dont want to spend money, you can just walk up to the base and walk on the lower end of the glacier.

You gotta be careful with these new builds, man. So many new "luxury" apartment complexes are going up with cheaper and cheaper builds. I was shocked at some of the places I visited before we signed a lease at the current place. Just absolute rush jobs going for $2500 a month. Just insanity.

I’m 43 and have been cutting my own hair ever since Covid. Looking to mix it up with a low taper fade. Not like the alpaca teenager look, nor a buzz cut fade, but something I could wear in a professional setting.

Any suggestions on a shop near north shore of Milwaukee?

For reference, something like this

One of our kids was sick for Paris so that leg of our trip wasn't quite what it could have been but I would say that as long you're within a short walk of a metro station you're good staying anywhere. The subway system is excellent so you can get basically anywhere without a lot of fuss.

We stayed next to this restaurant in the 11th district. Lots of food varieties in the area and a metro station that got to a lot of good places without having to change lines (not that changing is too hard). There was also a nearby market that I think was on a couple days a week in the mornings.

The Latin quarter is a good place to visit for food options too, just head to the area where there's lots of narrow streets and you can't go wrong.
