Quentin Grimes received his first formal offer from the Philadelphia 76ers during his restricted free agency on Wednesday.
"I'm told both of these sides are very far apart on a deal," said Shams Charania. "Quentin Grimes' agent, David Bauman, told me today that it was the first time today that the Sixers made a formal hard offer to Grimes as a restricted free agent."
Grimes could take his one-year, $8.7 million qualifying offer with the Sixers and then become an unrestricted free agent next offseason.
Grimes will not report to the Sixers for media day and will not accompany the team on their preseason trip to Abu Dhabi.
Grimes was acquired by the Sixers from the Dallas Mavericks ahead of the deadline for Caleb Martin. In 28 games with the Sixers, Grimes averaged 21.9 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.5 assists in 33.7 minutes.
