This team doesn't need to get trade-happy and dump any more draft capital just because we hit a couple home runs recently. We're already out our next two 1st round picks and honestly, if the Nixon/Vallentine/Hobbs trio continues to be a pretty solid secondary foundation, what are even the weaknesses on this roster? Getting Watson back is basically adding another impact WR who's better than anyone on the current market, and it's not like Reed is gonna be out for the season (at least hopefully).

I’m not crazy about the OL situation tbh. I know it’s a deep group in terms of bodies but the talent isn’t overwhelming especially when you get to the backup guys who are already playing because starters are hurt. I don’t want to dump more draft capital either but I wouldn’t hate a trade for better OL depth. Trusting Morgan or Belton to be Super Bowl caliber guards/tackles is crazy, who knows what’s up with Tom now and Banks was a question mark coming off injury when we signed him and he’s an even bigger question mark now. I think the OL is the main weakness on the roster and I think it was overhyped to begin with. It’s an issue, for me at least. Is a trade necessary? I’m not sure but it’s worth exploring.

I'm not crazy about our O-line moves the past couple years either (Morgan pick, Banks signing), but good luck finding any quality guys available mid-season, because they're just not there, especially when more than half the teams in the league in any given season are looking for quality O-line depth. At the very least you gotta let these guys get some reps together. We've been forced to shuffle the line around more than any other team through 3-games.

The lions had what 7 sacks the other night against Baltimore. Love barely got touched all game week 1 when the starters were in. I think they are just getting way too cute with the line shuffling and need to just play players where they are accustomed to playing.

The line had a bad game against one of the best units in the league after playing great the 1st two games against top units.BUCKnation wrote:The lions had what 7 sacks the other night against Baltimore. Sometimes it doesn't have to get deeper then they had a bad week

The Green Bay Packers have signed G/C Lecitus Smith (luh-SEET-us) to the practice squad. General Manager Brian Gutekunst announced the transaction Wednesday.

Jason Wilde today made a good point. When we play Morgan at LT in the preseason he looks great. Every time we try to force him to other positions he struggles.
Packers do a great job of drafting versatile Olineman, but stop trying to force a square peg into a round hole. You already made (what appears) a mistake of drafting him over multiple other players don't double down by forcing him to play out of position.

I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Morgan has great upside as Guard in this league, they just need to let him develop there. It's going to take time but the reward should be worth it. Banks was a head scratcher, i don't know what they saw to give him all this money because the tape is average at best. He has poor balance and can't stay locked to his man in pass pro. I suspect they liked his run blocking but even there it was inconsistent. However he has played in a lot of big games for the niners so maybe we just need to be patient and let him settle down a bit.

I don't think Morgan fits as a guard at all. Not even close. He's a LT or a backup.

Yea, I thought Morgan was a guard after the draft but watching him he's clearly much better as a LT. I expect him to be the starter there next year

Next year, I wonder if they draft a center in a middle round and start him, kinda like Wells and Corey Linsley back in the day. Then left to right it could be: Morgan, Jenkins, new center, Belton, Tom.
Hopefully Banks is healthy enough to factor in, and if that’s the case they keep Jenkins at center. Seems like it might be a waste to play Jenkins there long term though.

I still think it's very likely Jenkins is cut, they save $20 mil in cap space by moving on from him although I guess if he's willing to either extend to lower that number or just take a paycut he might be back. I do wonder if they look into retaining Rhyan at all. If they do move on from Walker, Jenkins, & Rhyan then I'd imagine they go hard at OL in the draft

They definitely need to take a look at center in the draft. Josh Myers was the weak link on the O-Line for years, but we somehow look worse with Elgton at center right now. I hope he can start to get more comfortable as the season progresses and his college experience kicks in, but it definitely looks like an area to scout. I wouldn't mind them drafting a bunch of O-Line again this spring. We need some big hosses that you can plug and play. Give me a Tate Ratledge type.

Bryan Broaddus (former Packer scout, now Cowboy media) was on the radio this morning. He said we were close to a deal with Bill Walsh before signing Holmgren. Basically said Bill was considering coming to GB but he loved being in the media and retirement at the time.

If we draft a bunch of offensive lineman then that means Walker was allowed to sign elsewhere and Banks was cut.

I'm already expecting Walker to get a sizeable contract from another team, and they slide Morgan to his natural spot at LT.
Banks we're stuck with for at least another year. If we cut him his dead cap hit would be $20.25m for the 2026 season. He's a fine stopgap but you still need more linemen to develop.
Sean Rhyan will be a FA as well and the backups we do have (Monk, Jennings, Brant Banks, Kinnard) could use some upgrading.
I'd be curious to see how Belton looks at RG once Tom is fully healthy.

1st two weeks the O-Line was pretty good against some good units. Yeah the Browns lit them up but that's a pretty strong statement based on one bad week versus the other two weeks especially considering how good that Browns unit has been so far this season

The operation on the road was horrendous, and it started with Elgton. Most of the time when they went into silent count, he was snapping the ball looking down and by the time he looked up the DT was already past him. I'll give the line a mulligan because it's the first road game with multiple starters out, but they need to get things cleaned up. The penalties alone will sink the team.
