An excellent interview.

When he spoke about "I wouldn't be totally shocked if I were traded, there are new owners and governors and they may have a different vision for the team" or whatever all I could think of was "How is Shams and ESPN going to run with this?" without realizing that he's speaking broadly and metaphorically. In the same breath he said he's excited for the season as the team is constructed with shooters and exciting players (per his words). Even said he thinks Cole Anthony will surprise a lot of people.
"Wes, Hill, Ibaka, Allen, Nwora, Brook, Pat, Ingles, Khris are all slow-mo, injury prone ... a sandcastle waiting for playoff wave to get wrecked. A castle with no long-range archers... is destined to fall. That is all I have to say."-- FOTIS

Good for clicks and all that, but there is a lot of confidence in Luka after basically a full year of play well below his normal standards. Not sure how he jumped Giannis in any world.

I'm an outlier but I don't think SGA deserves #2.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

It's absurd to even put SGA in the same category as Giannis.

Do the thought experiment where you swap SGA and Giannis, anybody at The Ringer.

Antetokounmpo has been putting up even better production over the past few years than the seasons when he won back-to-back MVP awards. He has averaged 30 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists on 60% shooting in each of the past two seasons, the only player in NBA history to do so, with a combination of efficiency and dominance that rivals peak Shaquille O'Neal and Wilt Chamberlain. Antetokounmpo was healthy for the 2025 playoffs for the first time in three years, and his numbers got even better (33 PPG and 14 RPG on 64% shooting).

Wow! So he must be the best player in the league easily, right? Nope, fourth.

Giannis and Jokic are in their own tier. Right below them are Luka and SGA. Then it's everyone else. This isn't rocket science.

In the NBA Cup, which doesn't count yadda yadda, SGA was relatively contained and bothered by Ajax while Giannis looked like prime Wilt and made a great defensive team like OKC look like children. Literally. They tried the "CaRuShoW" trick and that didn't do anything either.

This might even be worse than the summer after the championship where we had to listen to all the mouth-breathers try and make "Is KD the best player in the world?" a thing (it was never a thing).

Jokic's status as the unimpeachable best player in the world no matter how much the Nuggets get clamped up by good defenses in the playoffs is also becoming an annoying trend. Giannis puts up a casual 30/20/13/2/2 on 61% TS with all-world defense in an elimination game and it's an afterthought. Jokic pulls a disappearing act (20/9/7 while only getting 9 shots up) in a blowout Game 7 loss while allowing OKC to put up a 127 OFF-RTG (gee, I wonder how they did that while only shooting 30% from 3PT...), and all you hear is "not his fault, his teammates suck" excuses. If Giannis got the Jokic-rules hipster NBA media treatment, he'd have had his 3rd MVP already.

"But that was against the NBA champions, while Giannis did that against.....the other NBA Finalist." NBA nerd media.

I do not care about where Giannis ranks anymore. The franchise needs to be serious and get out of the first round then maybe I’ll change my mind.
