Congratulations Caleb. Braxton Jones and Tyrique, two other players that get a lot of criticism, also had good games last week.

Frank Schwab on Michael Penix: " This season he has 605 yards and one touchdown in three games. He has played in eight games, six of them starts, and has completed 58.3% of his passes for 1,380 yards, four touchdowns and five interceptions. That's a 75.2 passer rating. The only regular starting quarterback lower than 79.4 last season was Anthony Richardson. Richardson was also the only starter last season to complete less than 60% of his passes."

If we were going to trade down from #1, Penix is the guy I thought would be a good target, because I thought he would last until at least around pick 15, and so we could get a really big trade package for moving down that far. Turns out he only lasted until 8, and now he's really struggling. He supposedly throws a very tight spiral due to having huge hands, and is thus very accurate in the wind, and was phenomenal on deep throws in college. But so far he hasn't looked good in the NFL. As a #8 pick, I'm sure he'll be given ample opportunity to prove himself sooner or later, even if they do go to Cousins at some point this year (and why wouldn't they, after all the money they're paying him), if they think he can win more games for them.

I've been surprised by his struggles so far. I thought with his age and experience he'd transition faster to the NFL. Penix and Odunze were lethal in college. Thy killed my Longhorns.

Having watched the all-22 from Panthers-Falcons, Penix has Sam Darnold syndrome. He panics in the pocket way too early and throws without looking or thinking. Seeing ghosts.

Panthers did a good job blitzing and showing pressure, even though they didn't sack him I believe

I don’t even care about the completions. No, I do. Caleb the last 2 weeks has played quarterback more how it’s supposed to look. You know it when you see it. Yes, he still has left some throws holstered. Hopefully some of those develop into targets. The main thing is, decisiveness is increasing. Nervousness decreased. We gotta stack some games now.

Finally we get a reprieve from annoying "let's play Bagent" dialogue.

Bagent will get plenty of snaps after CW has thrown 4 TDs and the blowout is insured.

CW is the perfect fit for Coach’s offense. Wait till end is season. Last week he looked confident in the huddle. Week one he looked confused. It will slowly come together.

Bears have finally right talent at QB, and right talent at coach position to make this happen. I think we can finally say that coach is just as important as QB. Confidence in plays can only happen if plays are schemed right. If you give through schemes your quarterback options to make plays happen, good quarterback will realize them more than not.

But it's a long road for Bears to do it week by week. We still have losing record this season and 20+ years of nothing at coach helm and if you exclude Cutler you have nothing for same period at quarterback helm. Long long road with a lot of growing to do, but with some hope to build modern NFL team.

I'm tempted to get excited, but success against DAL defense only means that CW and the Bears can have offensive success against the worst defense in football. If he can do in a divisional game like that, I'll hop on the train.

Does anyone else really like Caleb? There was all this talk coming out of college that he was a diva and would be difficult to manage but I’ve never seen any indications of this.

He genuinely seems humble, grounded and a good guy. He appears to be fully on board with Johnson’s plan to essentially rebuild his whole QB game. You can already see there are going to be massive teething issues but you also can see what might happen if everyone involved works hard and gets it right.

Same. Tempted to be excited. But when the Sun Times guy asked what makes this different than when Trubisky threw for 6 TDs, it was well asked, because there isn’t a great answer. The difference is I think, we just want to believe Caleb is better, and we do think that. Need to see more, basically.

I think Bears are just scratching the surface. Still no running game. Just imagine how dangerous they'll be once they get that going, they start getting Loveland involved, and Caleb gets more and more familiar with the playbook.

Chicago hasn't "chosen" anything. I am sick and tired of these dumb renderings when the Bears have no plan to fund the darned thing. Wake me up when they've stopped asking for taxpayer handouts and are ready to actually build.

BTW, watching some film, and noticed that on that first TD to Odunze, it was only made possible by Swift picking up a blitzing LB up the middle. A perfect blitz pickup.
