What’s the lineup when he goes down around Thanksgiving? This would be Mike Brown’s first mistake. A disservice to Mitch and team continuity.

Yeah, i'm having trouble understanding the logic of starting a guy that has shown zero ability to stay healthy in the typical minutes of a normal starting role. If Mitch is going to be playing reduced minutes you might as well bring him off the bench imo unless you think Yabusele or Hukporti are better at the 5 than KAT is. I don't mind adjusting who starts and finishes games depending on matchups but what are people that want Mitch at the 5 and KAT at the 4 envisioning?

I don't mind them playing together situationally but some teams go 5 out pulling Mitch away from the rim negating his rim protecting ability and still exposing KAT's flaws as a defender. I can't imagine starting KAT and Mitch at the 4 and 5 against a healthy Celtics team playing 5 out with Tatum and KP at the 4 and 5. I didn't really even see much of a benefit from it in Pacer's series with their pace and space.

Personally I would rather keep Mitch closer to 20mpg and KAT closer to 30mpg especially if the team is no longer playing at the slowest pace in the league. KAT and Mitch could cover all the center minutes unless you want to try to play Mitch normal starters minutes to limit the amount of time with KAT at the 5 or give Yabu or Huk more minutes at the 5. If you don't like KAT at the 5 defensively you may not like Yabu at the 5 either. Huk may not be ready to be a positive contributor. What is your center rotation if Mitch starts and how many minutes would you want Mitch to play?

Without Mitch or Hart in the starting 5, the Knicks would get crushed on the boards with OG and Mikal being below average in that department.

You also want to avoid playing them together as much as possible since you limit your spacing significantly.

I think Mitch will do well with the starters. He can sub out early along with Bridges and be replaced with Yabu and J-Hart. That will then give Bridges and opportunity to get more time with the second unit and be more assertive offensively.

Mitch also came off the bench and guarded Kornet and sick KP the vast majority of the time. I'm fine with KAT or Mitch guarding quality perimeter players for partial possessions here and there but I don't want to see it most of the game. We saw them start together in the Pacer's series. Starting 2 bigs didn't magically fix everything in that situation and Mitch somehow in that small sample size of 4 games had the worst defensive rating in the rotation.

In the end i'm just trying to figure out how a guy that is always injured when he plays a starter's role but stayed healthy for a short period last year coming off the bench playing 17mpg in the regular season and 20mpg in the postseason is going to go back to being a starter in more than name only. Are we just going to up the pace and his minutes and just hope for the best this time?
