2025 season thread

Post#1 » by hermes » Fri Sep 5, 2025 10:49 pm

of course its a dang night, primetime game at chicago - i'm not expecting good things

so darrisaw and harrison are banged up, maybe not too serious since they might play? (now that i have to go back into the office part time, i'm catching more kfan so i'm more informed than usual)

what do you think worm, are we going to be good?
seems like there is a lot of talent there but we've got some question marks in spots you don't want to have questions at (qb and the entire secondary i guess?)

I don't like Monday Night games, since I will have to miss it. I'll record it and watch it later if we win. Smith has some mysterious illness (mysterious in the sense that they are keeping it private) and has been downgraded to out. Darrisaw is recovering from the ACL, sounds like he's healthy but Soldier Field doesn't have the best turf and we might hold him out a week so he can start on a better surface.

I don't know if we'll be good, so much is going to depend on McCarthy and I've only watch him play the one drive in the preseason. Our secondary seems thin, but we look solid everywhere else. In his 3 seasons, O'Connell has generally gotten the best out of the team as long as we get solid QB play.
We're also in a tough division. Chicago could be improved with Ben Johnson as the HC and Green Bay looks scary with the addition of Micah Parsons.

I didn’t see the game but three 4th quarter touchdowns in your rookie debut seems pretty legendary.

maybe just rewatch the 4th quarter

although knowing we won, the early struggles won't be so bad

I watched the first and fourth quarters. I'm not sure what to make of it except McCarthy clearly doesn't get too down on himself. I think he'll probably have some more struggles throughout the season, but he's not going to give up.

Nice easy win today, mostly because of the defense and turnovers. The offense was better and looked solid.

admirable comeback after being dead in the water for most of the game

wentz doesn't seem to have the juice that darnold did last year. and i don't think we're protecting him well enough

Having 3 starting offensive lineman out definitely doesn't help, and considering Wentz was a guy who wasn't on a roster until a week before the season, I think we moved the ball fairly well. We can't win this level of injuries though.

I’ve calmed down some… haha.

I will say this, I hate the narrative going around that KOC doesn’t call quick developing passing plays. He does, they’re just not usually the 1st read. His offense really relies on a QB that excels at seeing the whole field and getting through his reads quickly.

This is why even with a bad O line and Kirk who was essentially immobile. Our sack% was middle of the pack. It’s because Kirk was damn good at seeing the entire field and getting to different guys quickly.

Just adding this here to kind of put it into video. My guess is Addison was the first read and Wentz just stares him down and never moves off of him. While JJ is wide open on a quick slant, and Mason pops open on the blitz side as well.

The issue is, last year we had Darnold who is known to hold onto the ball too long. And Wentz literally lost his job in Philly because he held onto the ball too long.

This also doesn’t make me feel super optimistic about McCarthy. Ya he seems like a smart kid and all. But his responsibilities at Michigan were very limited. Lots of handing it off and lots of one read passing plays.

With that said, this was the big worry about all the money that was spent in the offseason. Lots of it were to guys in their 30s with big injury question marks. And we just happen to get on the wrong side of that a lot to start this year.

I think a lot of this goes back to the Sam Howell mistake. How much better would Wentz be if he had spent the entire training camp with the Vikings? Or if we had just resigned Mullens? Starting a player who had been in the system less than a month seems like it could be part of the problem.
