Yeah, anytime there's an extensive collection of really old talent, it's good to remember these teams. They're more likely to fall apart than they are to go on a deep run. 1999 Rockets. 2013 Lakers with Nash and injured Dwight joining an aging Kobe/Metta/Pau. 2011 Celtics with Shaq and Jermaine O'Neal trying to help old KG/Pierce/Allen. An even older KG and Pierce going to Brooklyn in 2014 to support the fading Joe Johnson, D.Will, Jason Terry, and even Andrei Kirilenko getting in on it.
I think older veterans can still be super dangerous, but you have to put them around a young up and comer who's doing all the heavy lifting, like how Tim Duncan and Manu could still be dangerous but Kawhi was doing the young man things. The Warriors hoped to find that in Kuminga, Poole, or Wiseman, but easier said than done.
The only teams I can think of where it worked out are the Spurs. And they still always had a good amount of young and hungry players playing significant minutes.
Even the teams you remember as old teams, like the mid to late 90s Jazz had mostly players in their mid to late 20s besides Malone, Stockton and Hornaceck. The mentioned 99 Rockets had 23 year old rookies Cuttino Mobley and Michael Dickerson as their starting backcourt and 25 year old Cuttino Mobley as their 6th man.
It´s pretty much a big gamble, you are betting on nobody falling of too much between seasons, players staying healthy enough to secure a kinda solid playoff spot and everybody being and staying healthy for the payoffs.

Poor Stephen Curry will still need to play 48 minutes per night at point

No, the Warriors offered him a solid contract (more money actually) but Klay decided he'd like a new chapter with Dallas and thought with Dallas coming off a chip and needing some 3P shooting that he'd be a perfect fit. Klay figured he'd have a chance at winning a championship in Dallas, of course Nico had other plans. I do think he felt more like Dallas thought he could help them more than the Warriors though.
Klay is definitely winning in life with his Megan relationship.

Steph Curry isn't your typical old guy. His game will age extremely well. The same thing could be said about Butler, to a lesser extent. Warriors will be a problem if they can stay healthy.

The rumor is the Tatum injury plus the Celtics gutting the team, played a role in Al deciding to leave.

Getting injured (or the likelihood of injury) is a big part of being an older player. Lots of guys age amazingly but then get injured and the recovery isn't there. Anyone can get hurt. Rookies get hurt and miss their whole rookie seasons. With old guys though, they're more likely to get hurt and less likely to bounce back.
I'm not saying Curry will start sucking.

Re: Shams: Al Horford Agrees to Multi-Year Deal with the Warriors
So, first and obviously, Al has been an awesome player. Dunno how much he'll have left in year 19, but he rebounds and passes well, has a 3, hits his FTs and just plays the game the right way. Smart dude, makes hustle plays and all that. Excellent addition whenever he'll be on the court. I worry a little about his health. He hasn't played 70 games since 2018 and he's missed 19, 17 and 22 games the past 3 seasons, two of which were under 30 mpg. So availability is at least something of an issue. And Butler is also going to have major availability issues.
It'll be faintly miraculous if they put together a healthy postseason run, though if they do, it would be outstanding. But Steph's older, has his own health issues and other struggles. This should be a fun team, just probably not a real contender unless the stars align in a very particular manner.
Awesome signing, though. Even at 60 games, he's about as good as you're going to get to fill that kind of role. If you going in expecting like 9/8 from him on quality percentages, then that's probably a good bet. Excellent connecting player, and sort of the archetype for the good vet big.

Wow, starting center? They're way too old, hard to see them staying healthy enough to make a deep playoff run

Interesting expirement, all players are good fits, but very old, Podz, Melton and Post are the only rotation players born after 1992.

So is Kuminga taking the QO or what? I thought he was holding up all the Dubs signings?

Al hasn't officially signed, so everyone is still waiting on JK. Al has agreed to the deal, which will be signed this week presumably by Oct 1 which is the Kuminga deadline.
I expect JK to play hardball all the way to Oct 1 to try to squeeze more out of the Warriors. I don't see him signing the QO, he could have done that months ago if he just wanted out. He wants out eventually, but securing the bag first is the hold up.
