Carmelo Anthony Draft - Semi - Jon_3232 vs Laimbeer*

Post#1 » by durantbird » Sun Sep 28, 2025 6:37 pm

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups. Once the writeups are posted, I will add a poll, and the team with the most votes after 24 hours will advance. EACH MANAGER SHOULD ALSO VOTE FOR THEIR OWN TEAM IN THE POLL - IF YOU FAIL TO DO THIS, YOU ARE SIMPLY GIVING AWAY A VOTE. If the votes are tied, we will decide the matchup via AI vote.

You are not required to state or explain your vote, but you are free to comment in the thread if you want to.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

Nikola Jokić ( 2023 ) 14.8 - DEN MVP (1)
Dorian Finney-Smith ( 2025 ) 6.9 - LAL 41.1% on 5.0 3PA
Jayson Tatum ( 2024 ) 19.3 - 3rd MVP (6)
Ray Allen ( 2005 ) 19.2 - OKC MVP (9)
Terry Porter ( 1991 ) 11.7 - POR MVP (9)

Anthony Mason ( 1995 ) 6.6 - NYK 6MOY (1)
Dan Majerle ( 1998 ) 6.1 - B/AS 37.6% on 4.1 3PA
Brent Barry ( 2009 ) 3.1 - HOU 37.4% on 2.3 3PA

87.7

Nikola Jokić (38) / Anthony Mason (10)
Dorian Finney-Smith (36) / Anthony Mason (12)
Jayson Tatum (38) / Dan Majerle (10)
Ray Allen (38) / Dan Majerle (10)
Terry Porter (38) / Brent Barry (10)

Good luck Jon.

Our offense around Jokic is pretty ridiculous. Spacing all around with Tatum, Allen, and Porter all capable off-ball players who can put pressure on a defense. Shaq will struggle trying to defend Jokic in space - this takes away much of his defensive strength - protecting the paint.

KAT will be reduced to a floor spacer with Shaq. Pippen's playmaking ability gets a bit lost while he and Penny are both shaky as three point threats. Jokic has the bulk and smarts to provide resistance on Shaq. Jokic/Shaq, Tatum/Pippen, Allen/Battier, DFS/KAT, Porter/Penny is pretty solid.

Our better fit along with Jokic giving Shaq unique challenges on both ends will be the difference.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

GL Laimbeer,

Shaqs size and power will overwhelm Jokic physically, forcing him to defend deep in the post where he’s least effective. Jokic may have size but is not a good defender and peak Shaq had no resistance from the elite defensive Cs during that time so he should have zero problems against Jokic. Penny gives Shaq a dynamic playmaker to pressure Terry Porter, while Scottie and Battier combine to limit Ray Allen and Jayson Tatum on the perimeter. Towns shooting stretches the floor, opening driving lanes for Penny and Harden off the bench, while Shaq punishes single coverage and draws constant doubles. Laimbeers team has the ability to move the ball nicely, but against elite perimeter defenders and a dominant low-post anchor, their scoring efficiency will dip. The added bench firepower of Harden and defense of Iggy give me a clear advantage in that department.
