All the California Teams (and Utah) solve the Kuminga puzzle

Post#1 » by HornetJail » Mon Sep 29, 2025 3:46 pm

GSW trades Kuminga
GSW receives Anderson, top 10 prot SAC 1st

Warriors get a pick and a familiar face in the frontcourt. Don't take on much salary in a Kuminga trade.

SAC trades Monk, Carter, 2026 top 10 prot 1st (becomes 2 2nds if not conveyed by 2028)
SAC receives Kuminga (3/80M S&T, TO or partial guarantee on final year)

Kings get their guy. Still don't think they should do this, but they're probably going to. Kuminga agrees to the S&T at 27M a year.

LAC trades Bogdanovic, Brown, 2032 2nd
LAC receives Hachimura

Clippers add some frontcourt depth for the season.

LAL trades Hachimura, Knecht
LAL receives Monk, Brown

Lakers add more scoring to the backcourt with a familiar face that had a good season with LeBron in the past.

UTA trades Anderson
UTA receives Bogdanovic, Carter (into TPE), Knecht (into MLE), LAC 2032 2nd

Jazz eat some salary from the other teams and get free looks at a couple 2nd year players.

I hate the Lakers but if a deal surrounding Monk for Rui was available, I'd just cut everyone else out.

But no sure why that makes sense for LA when their guard rotation already has
Luka, Reaves, Vincent, Smart.

I agree that the Lakers are the odd team out here, potentially - so this needs to solve for Monk. But in general, I think this is really well balanced and I like the idea of the Utah, Golden State, and Sacramento pieces.

I dont see why we would go after Monk

Needs:
Wing 3 and d defender: Ex: Wiggins
Backup/starting defensive minded C: Ex: Rw3/Kessler
A 3 point sniper

Just feels rich for the Kings to give up all 3 Monk, Carter and a 1st for Kuminga.

Not sure if the money works, but if the Lakers wanted Monk, I’d take Rui on GS and send Kuminga to Sac and call it a day

Rui makes $18.2M this year (unrestricted FA next summer), Monk makes $18.7M. So getting Rui on the Warriors creates the same need to move either Hield or Moody as the Monk deal does. Not sure how that impacts your thinking, if at all…….

Yeah, I was waiting for somebody to point out that Monk’s 3-point percentage makes him anything but a sniper. He’s at 35% for his career, and last year was 32.5%. He’s streaky and has some nice highlight shots, but definitely isn’t a guy you want shooting a high volume of 3’s.

I don't think anyone is giving Kuminga 3yrs $80 million and I don't think he would accpt the 3rd year non guarantee. The W's getting a #1 out of him when they are 6 days away from their first preseason game and he's 1 day from his QO deadline is unlikely.

Yeah 32.5% last year that's Monte Ellis numbers.

Admittedly I thought he was better than that! I looked at the numbers after the responses, very Jordan Clarkson
Those high-volume but below average efficiency guys have a role, but I don't blame LAL for not being interested.

IF Kuminga takes the QO what are the rules on him then being traded at a later time? I think he has to approve the trade but IDK the time required after the signing.

he has to approve the trade and he loses his Bird Rights.

It is in nobody's best interest to take the QO unless he is straight up hell bent on leaving as an UFA next year
