Kuminga and our Aprons?
11M/yr to stay under 1st apron.
23M/year to stay under 2nd apron.
Oof.

Jokic and Giannis are both potential FA that summer.wco81 wrote:Old_Blue wrote:watch1958 wrote:Is it time to trade Podz? If they are hell bent on keeping caproom for the summer of 2027, what will they offer Podz at the end of this season? 1+1? Handshake deal?
The Dubs only have Moody's $13.4 million committed for 2027-2028 and the 1st cap apron that season is $220 million. It'll be fine.
Whom do they think they would sign in the summer of 2027
So Curry's current contract would be off the books? Curry, Butler and Draymond?
Heard the Lakers are also angling to have max cap space that summer as well but they have Luka to lure another max contract star.
If the Warriors no longer have Curry under contract and he's not playing at all-NBA level by then, why would a star sign with the Warriors?
This movie is like the Rocky Horror Picture Show where everyone knows all the lines.

In 2027.
Play with Luka or play with Moody... tough call.

I agree on. But the FO loves to think big.Crazy-Canuck wrote:watch1958 wrote:Jokic and Giannis are both potential FA that summer.wco81 wrote:

Also, if the next two seasons go well, would Steph/Draymond/Jimmie consider returning and talking a huge pay cut to bring a superstar in?

About 10 years ago, someone raised that idea, that towards the end of their careers, Steph might take a big discount, like Duncan did with the Spurs around that time, to keep the franchise at the top.
I don't think it's very likely. For one thing, if Steph is still on one of the All-NBA teams, scoring around 25 PPG at high efficiency, how do you get him to take a steep cut?
Second, he wants to buy a franchise so he needs to maximize. Then there's also consideration with other players. The union doesn't want to see superstars, as long as they're still playing like superstars, to take a way below market salary.
Lebron is in the same situation. He's still putting up All-NBA numbers and the Lakers want him to take a cut so they can sign another star and pay him more, even though it's possible even 2 years from now Lebron will still be performing better than whomever they're likely to sign.
Though they also think they can sign Jokic or Giannis. And Luka may be the draw to make one of them sign with the Lakers.

With the apparent decision to carry 15 players on the main roster, the 3/75 offer to Kuminga cannot be made as it would take them a hair over the 2nd apron hard cap.
At 3/70, the Warriors would have about $1.4M below the 2nd apron, enough for a 1/2 season on a vet minimum in case they need a replacement player later in the season.

So, at this point, Kuminga's "brilliant" negotiating tactics are literally costing him money and options. Yeesh.

By adding Richard as the 14th signed player (making Kuminga the 15 signed player), the Warriors in effect cancelled their 3/75 offer. It wouldn't take much of a drop on the 3/75 to dip below the 2nd apron, but I don't think they want to remove the option for a vet minimum replacement player later in the season.

$5 million doesn't sound to me like an amount that Kuminga can afford to lose in the sofa cushions.

Apparently Melton (and GPII) are signing "multi-year" deals" I read that to be two-year deals.

Vet minimum deals are limited to two seasons, I believe.

I’m betting Melton has a player option for a second year, and GPII has a team option for a second year. Would be surprised if otherwise in either case. Melton probably wants to bet on himself to be more after hopefully a healthy year (for a change), whereas GPII and everybody involved probably realizes that he’ll be a specialist player the rest of his time in the NBA, effectively running year-to-year.
If I don't have anything funny to say, can I still have a signature?

His tactics did actually work for a while, Lacob/MDJ made concessions. But then he and his agent got greedy and wanted more, that's where they made their mistake. Should have taken the pretty decent offers that they had recently. Or maybe he's just thinking I don't really want to be there so make me a ridiculous offer I can't refuse, or I'm fine with he QO since getting out of here faster is what I really want anyway. The funny thing is he's probably easier to trade with a contract so even though the QO could set him free, it might mean he's here for a year instead of a half year.
But the QO is bad for the Warriors too, what we don't really know is how desperate the Warriors are to avoid that situation. But with them filling in the roster before Kuminga signs, I don't know where else they can go other than giving in to the player option ask.

If the Dubs viewed Kuminga as anything more than a hot mess, then they would have presented him with better offers. Personally, I think the club views Kuminga's value to the team as easily replaceable with an MLE level player.

Desperate enough to be offering him a lot of (short-term) guaranteed salary, even though they don't want him on the roster!
But not enough to get stuck with a negative contract.

You seemed to be “locked in” for things to work out in the worst way as possible for the young 22 year old kid. I feel sorry for you and people who feel the way you do. When he signs and he and the team does well, you won’t be able to enjoy it because of your strong dislike of him.

Your mention of Kuminga's age suggests that you think he should have been treated with kid gloves by the Warriors. Reality is that Kuminga is a grown man. One who, with the assistance of his agent, has made a travesty of this offseason. At times, it appeared that their goal was solely to be as disruptive as possible, delaying the team's ability to sign other free agents. Go ahead and call that a "negotiating tactic" if you will. But, actions have consequences. Maybe Generation Z thinks they are immune from that reality. They are not. And, for Kuminga and his agent to now see financial doors closing on them is proof to that effect.
