Bulls Media Day 9/29 2 PM ET

Post#1 » by samwana » Sun Sep 28, 2025 5:11 am

Tomorrow the off-season finally comes to an end.

We will see our guys in uniform again and can discuss who grew an inch or two and who added muscle, who lost weight (Pat hopefully) etc.

Pictures and fluff pieces are more than welcome!

See red!
Go Bulls!

Typically they stream all the podium interviews.

AK mentioned a "longer" rotation due to pace and style.

Billy hasn't made a decision on the fifth starter. Question asked was about Huerter but Billy mentioned Okoro.

Coby will be limited in camp due to a calf strain he got in August. Is this the first we know about this?

"We gonna run as fast as we can, take more shots, be more active, play physical, go get those loose balls and take charges! We gonna TRY HARDER! Cos THAT is the formula for success in the NBA. So, for example, when you start to break it down..." OK...I paraphrased that.

I understand, when you have a young player, people want to see the young player play. Matas didn't earn minutes early. But then he earned them. Patrick Williams earned them from day 1!! OK...I added the Patrick Williams part.

"Gonna play long rotations because of the style of play. Because we are so deeply talented 1 through 15". OK. I added the deeply talented part.

First, I'm confused by AK's prepared statement. He was clearly reading something he wrote, because his usual grammatical errors were all over the place. That said, there were a number of phrases that didn't sound like him mixed in. I don't want to bash his English, because he's a foreigner and is way better at English than I am at any other language...that said, it seems like he seems focused on not being even close to grammatically correct.

Anyway, I care a lot less about his cringeworthy phrases than I do about his learning how to run a basketball organization. I was happy to hear how much he seemed to take away from MIA kicking our butts in the play-in and wanting to do something about it.

His comments about Coby seemed a bit contradictory at times regarding how much conversation he's actually had with Coby's agent. He initially said that he's a lot conversation about it, but then said that he looks forward to speaking to Coby's agent in the future.

I got no comfort that Vuc is heading out of town this season (boo!). Doesn't sound like they are expecting a big uptick in play from Matas, if anything, a downtick is expected as he makes opponents' scouting reports. Sounds like Jones and Ayo are expected to have big roles in the rotation, which may knock Pat out. Especially since they didn't seem committed to a big G-league role for Noa because they like how he knows how to play.

You made me sad. I was not a fan of either. Still Gordon situation makes worry for him. Having a mental issue is tough to deal with. God Bless Him.

Funniest AK statement so far. "He plays really well without a ball". I know he meant "he plays really well without having to have the ball in his hands all the time". But it still cracked me up.

That was by far the best I have ever had from AK and Billy together. Sounded aligned, realistic, and the Bulls finally have an identity as a team.

- AK making it clear we have to play much more physical, create more turnovers, and get much better at D. Mentioned playing zone and picking up full court.
- Billy said we were 29th in Rim Protection. We looking at you Vuc. I actually think Vuc will get less than 30 mins per game. Hopefully 25ish.
- Loved that Billy has coached Buz that this year will be nothing like last as the league has seen him. Sounds like Buz is being prepared to go full send
- Okoro Huerter. Sounds like Billy wants Okoro to be his Caruso. Mentioned Huerter played well on D too but also mentioned reserves mostly plays against reserves.
- Billy had high praise for Noa. Knows how to play. Praised his work ethic. This is kid is going to play. His length and athleticism will play. I think he will get 10th/11th man mins and then get real rotation mins by ASB. The Buz lite program.
- Sucks Coby is out. Sounds like they are underselling and he will miss some reg season.

This may be the best media answers I have ever heard. I know these guys are coached up, but I can't recall thinking to myself that "this guy gets who he is and what he needs to do" more than Matas made me think. Hard not to be a huge fan of this kid.

On the one hand, Ayo being interviewed but not Pat seems interesting. However, the first photo from the Bulls:
