Interesting YouTube video from Kevin O’Connor and David Thorpe discussing this year’s Hornets. Both agree this is the year LaMelo must produce or he’s gone. Thorpe isn’t a fan of the draft picks. He’s got major doubts on Melo, has had since his time in Australia. Said he was always focused on just having fun and playing with style. Worth watching.

I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Is it? Sounds like the casual take most RealGM'ers who don't watch Hornets games have on Melo.

Thorpe has watched him from way back. I agree with his observations. Melo has, to this point, focused on being a stylistic entertainer while hooping, and lacks a pro’s approach to his preparation or to the game (Thorpe used the example of not valuing possessions).

Having said that, I DO think he came into last season with a better approach. He showed improvement in several areas, including more attempts to defend. Coaches say he’s been working harder this offseason on his training, getting stronger. They are trying to get him to become more of a leader, mostly by example. I don’t think he’s a natural leader…Brandon Miller is and should be who they primarily build around.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Here's the lazy man version of training camp media day
- lamelo has taken off season weight training seriously this summer. Worked on both upper and lower body.
- coach wants the Hornets to play faster. Gee we've only heard that 18 straight training camps.
- another regurgitated comment that we hear every year, coach mentions how shocked he was that everyone was here this summer working out.
- no timetable for Grant or green. Brandon playing with tape on his wrist.
- coach mentions that both Pat and Colin are immediate leaders.
- coach wants mann to catch and shoot more rather than always dribble
- Melo and Colin are vibing
- Spencer seems wise
- Mason not here today, excused absence
- coach mentions better roster veritality
- game slowing down for tiddy

Media day thread

Usually there is one with pictures of all the teams and new players, with new faces in different places. If someone can post all the pictures in this thread that would be awesome. I dont know how to post pics to realgm.

“Better roster versatility”….? Sure with all the guards, but bigs?

Hope Mason’s absence means we’re about to trade him as part of acquiring a quality center. One can dream….right?
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Based on the Pat leadership comment, does that hint we plan on keeping him? I almost forgot he was even on the team.

kind of hope so. if nothing else, he's 9.4M worth of tradeable salary midseason, it would be wonderful if we kept him and punted Plumlee or Dinwiddie.

moose
basically, dont expect moose shooting 3s. He said he's been shooting threes this summer but it doesn't seem like it will be a big part of this game next year. He emphasized that he wanted to continue to improve on his strengths AKA The quote turned his good skills into elite skills. he mentioned improving his finishing at the rim as one of those things.

Well both Pat and Spencer were mentioned as being immediate vocal leaders and veteran leaders on the team. Unless there's a bizarre move coming in the future then one of them will be traded or cut, Despite their leadership qualities. It was all written in the stars when we made draft picks and signed them all to regular contracts rather than any of them on a 2 way. sion On a two way would have helped so much.

yeah that makes sense, the "moose shooting 3s" thing was always a fan pipe dream. he's got a really long way to go, just learn how finish around the basket and hit your free throws, then we can talk about 3s.

Jeff thinks Miller can be a hall of fame player.

I need to find more media day takes. Appreciate Fats poor man synopsis. But something is off in all this.

Talking about Spencer and Pat being leaders, yet they still have to cut someone from this bunch. Plum isn’t even present for media day, given an excused absence. WTH? They barely have a functional center position anyway, and the old vet they signed is already missing.

Glad Peterson is calling out Brandon as having great potential, and to be their leader. Lee says Ball put a lot of investment in his work building his strength. Mann says Miles is their veteran leader (whoa…that’s wild).

So on we go, camp begins, soon we have exhibitions. Hope is what we have for now, despite the gaps and health fears. When following this team, all you have is hope.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Yeah that was my pipe dream, but he's right, its best to get great at his strengths for his position before he starts trying to add stuff.

he looks strong as ****, if he can his own in the post while still having the mobility to defend the perimeter well, he should be very solid.
one of those workman role players that every team needs.
