Who will sign Westbrook?

Post#1 » by NyKnicks1714 » Mon Sep 29, 2025 11:06 pm

It's media day and Russell Westbrook is still a free agent. There was talk this of him signing with Sacramento, but that didn't happen for whatever reason. Worst case scenario, at some point a team will get desperate for a backup point guard or a "spark off the bench", so he'll play this season for sure, but as it stands, it doesn't look like anyone is interested. I think front offices realize by now that he's not going to help your team win.

Does he wind up on a team before the season starts? Either way, who do you think decides to give it a go with him? I think he'll eventually wind up with Houston, Dallas, Golden State, or Milwaukee.

Maybe Houston? Probably not.

I do think the Kings might be waiting to see if the Warriors take what they are offering for JK before signing Brodie.

I would like to see him retire. I absolutely hate watching him play basketball.

Westbrook really is this generations Melo.

I suspect he'll sign somewhere a few months into the season.

Bucks have an obvious need, but I think he prefers a big city, or to go back to one of his earlier teams for legacy reasons. This will likely be his last team.

Houston would be a good fit considering FVV tore his acl. However, I doubt a reunion with Durant is in the cards

He’s not good enough to be that picky.

Wonder if he doesn't get offered a deal by opening day if he then would just stay ready and wait for the phone to ring or reach out internationally and test the waters? Don't know if he'd be willing to sign a 1yr deal other than for an NBA team.

100%.
The Hawks have a glaring hole at BU PG. They can ensure I won't watch if they picked him up.

I wonder why WB opted out of his contract with Denver.

Houston would be a pretty bad fit. The first and second unit have 2 non shooters and both lineups are desperate for better shooting.

Rockets need more of a 3&D player who can handle the ball safely.

I do not know how it works, but it was explained that new contract, even minimum one would pay more than his second year minimum extension with Denver, but I think RW didn't anticipate that no one will offer him any deal. That said, awful NBA FA players get these late contracts from NBA, I have seen Killian Hayes just got another deal, so RW will get signed by someone sooner or later tho, he will just have to work less for more money eventually.

Wolves, Pelicans, Hawks, & Bucks could all use a backup pg.

I think he gets signed as the season moves along and injuries start piling up, not now

I feel like the Bucks just need anybody that can dribble a ball up the court at this point, so he probably goes there.
