I liked Modern Family, I've seen all 250 episodes more than once. But I didn't notice it was Eric Stonestreet in 4 episodes of Dexter Resurrection. He did a good job.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

I liked it a lot. One of the entertainment podcasts I listen to called it their favorite show of the year (they've watched ahead).

Watched the second. Really liked it.

Can't tell if Chad Powers is going to be ridiculous or a fun watch?

Late review: there was a lot I liked about 28 Years Later, but it was shaggy and made some unnecessary and distracting choices. Were Boyle and Garland bored?

Great performances from Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer, and Fiennes. Passable child acting, which is almost as good as it gets, sorry childs.

First episode of House of Guinness was a typical first episode, establishing the characters. Created by Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders) and I like Anthony Boyle. I'll keep watching.

One Battle After Another: mini rant.

Spoiler:
I understand this was a political satire and it was probably over my head. Or I'm a square or something. But.

1. Perfidia murders, nay, executes, a security guard. He didn't startle her, he wasn't a faceless SWAT, she executed him.
2. Lockjaw is a Captain at that time, sleeping at an regional ICE-like compound. He does not have the power in any world to get a capital murderer zero prison time and witness protection for testifying against less culpable co-conspirators! Maybe life with possibility of parole. Not zero time and witsec in a mansion. It would have made national news. Once again I get it's a satire but make it somewhat realistic to set up the satire.
3. She's "not a hero" because she's a rat...but not because she's a cold blooded murderer. Just bothered me.
4. We get sentimental music at the end with her letter seeking redemption from her daughter? Security guard may have had a family who don't get to see him anymore. Really seemed to me that PTA was presenting Perfidia someone worthy of redemption.

Otherwise, it was fine. Leo and Benicio Del Toro scenes were fantastic. Penn's character and story were annoying. Too satirical and obnoxious. Bludgeon to face.

Spoiler:
I think the way to view of it is in the way you see on every police procedural ever. Detectives lean on someone to rat in the interrogation room, talk about immunity if they cooperate, but really it's the higher ups who decide and you never see that part of the process. Sean Penn isn't the one giving the immunity, he's just the one who gets the ball rolling.

Spoiler:
Perfidia is not a hero for many reasons and no one ever calls her one, except for Bob and only that is a lie he tells his daughter for her. She's shown to be reckless, selfish and a bad mother before she even chooses to betray her entire group of comrades. I think the emotion of the final scene is not that Willa's feeling anything towards her mother. She's learned that both of her biological parents are POS and is realizing all that Bob has done and sacrificed for her.

Yeah on further reflection/reading I got that. Just so initially angry about it haha.

On the topic of the last few posts

Spoiler:
I also just assumed there was a decent amount of time that has passed from that first scene to the bank robbery scene with the montage of multiple events and the pregnancy (like 2-3 years at least). I think Lockjaw had gotten into a higher position as well to get that sway.

I really liked Battle. I've been a fan of PTA since his first movie Hard Eight. Leo and Penn were terrific. I would have liked to have seen more Benicio.

I'm really looking forward to a rewatch. It's such a weird movie in a lot of ways, I think going in kind of knowing what to expect will potentially open up a lot of things.

If anyone is thinking about Hulu+ Live TV

Cord cutters have a new way to save on Hulu + Live TV with the streamer's latest fall deal.
From Sept. 30 through Oct. 23, new and eligible returning subscribers (one+ month cancelled subs) pay only $64.99 per month for three months of Hulu + Live TV with ads -- a savings that comes at the best possible time as monthly pricing is set to increase from $82.99 to $89.99 on Oct. 21, 2025. The subscription includes over 95 live channels, Disney+ and ESPN Select (and ESPN Unlimited through the ESPN App).

After 3 months customers will be charged $89.99

Also, Disney has bought controlling interest in Fubo
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Battle is loosely based on the book Vineland by Thomas Pynchon. He's 88 and his first novel in 12 years, Shadow Ticket, comes out in October.

I mention this because the plot of the book: "The novel, which is set in 1932, centers on a Milwaukee private investigator who is set adrift in Hungary while tracking the heiress to a Wisconsin cheese fortune."

Hmm. I'm paying $44 a month on for the premium version of Hulu/ESPN/Disney+. I just cancelled Paramount. I guess I could theoretically cancel my Peacock sub and come close to justifying going to Live.

But, we're approaching the time of year where we need to remind ourselves to cancel the subscription services and take advantages of the inevitable Black Friday deals.

Good reminder, I think most have a 30 day thing to be considered a new subscriber. And when you cancel, your sub is active until the next billing date. That's the downside of annual subs, although they do save you money.

I liked One Battle After Another. But I think it has also been a bit overhyped by all the glowing reviews. Like a 3.5 or 4/5 type movie for me. Reminded me about all the hype for Everything Everywhere all at Once when it came out.
