What happens if he isn’t signed when the QO expires?

Wait you're saying that using only part of the NTPMLE wouldn't hard-cap them at the 1st apron?

Ok - apparently you can use a portion of the NTPMLE *up to* the amount of the TPMLE without triggering the 1st apron hard cap.
Perhaps Warriors wooed Horford by promising him more than the TPMLE *if* Kuminga signs the QO.

As long as they don't exceed the amount of the TPMLE ($5.685M) from the NTMLE ($14.104), they would not be hard capped at the first apron.
This is stated in the 2023 CBA as part of Article VII, Section 6(f)(5).

He would still be RFA but the QO would no longer be an option.

As well as any leverage he has. So jk is signing something Oct 1st

I would be shocked if the warriors upped their offer currently. But jk’s team must think the warriors will do something.

I would think the Warriors would rather not be hard capped at the first apron in the event they need to sign replacement vet minimums if any of the players signed for one year go down with injuries.
Or maybe they use that extra space to take back a bit more salary than they send out in a trade, which would then hard cap them at the first apron. If that space below the first apron is not there, then they can't take back the extra salary in a trade.
Or maybe they find themselves in a position after the trade deadline to acquire someone who was waived they would like to add (this would require waiving someone on the roster). And being below the first apron would qualify them to offer a pro-rated vet minimum to any player, while being above the first apron restricts that to waived players who were making less than the NTMLE.

$5.4 mil is really bargain basement for Horford. He was in demand by multiple teams (including Boston). He's gonna be our starting center and is worth half of Moses Moody or Buddy Hield?

Honestly horford is more important t than jk is for this upcoming year.

Re: Warriors exploring S&T for Kuminga
Also if we can get this to 200 pages this has got to be the most words ever written about a bench player who got benched out of the rotation when the team was actually trying to win.

I'm sure we did more than 200 pages on Anthony Randolph

As well as any leverage he has. So jk is signing something Oct 1st
But what if he decides to sit out, and see if some team has an injury, or gets desperate?

I think thats risky for him, more risky than taking the QO. OTOH it gives us more time to post pad this baby up to 200.

New subtopic: compare and contrast this situation with Curry’s decision to take a bargain extension after his third season.
Different approach to life I guess.
