Re: Giannis Thread - "The Finals are different, I hope to be back soon with the Bucks"
If Giannis comes out and says he isn't going anywhere no matter what any and all future picks we have for the next 5-8 ish years become a lot less valuable. I think he keeps the uncertainty up partly because that's just how he is, but you can't deny that the 30/31/32 range of firsts aren't a lot more enticing if everyone else thinks he has a foot out the door.
Maybe (hopefully) it's exactly what they plan on saying and pull off a nice trade

Frank Nova wrote:Giannis just loves his real life episode of Tom & Jerry when it comes to this stuff. It’s pretty played out imo, the whole thing. The media narrative and Giannis constantly leaving the door open for ultimate speculation.. I don’t have the self restraint to ignore it consistently, I try lol.
It's hard to ignore, and that's my issue. Going on a decade of the same talk and the media just can't let it go. You'd think they'd move on to a younger superstar in a small market by now.
I've been a fan of the Bucks well before Giannis got in town and I'll be a fan well after he's gone. Him being on the roster has no bearing on my fandom of the team. I just wish when our team was covered, that he wasn't the only talking point and we can move on to talk about the rest of the team, or how Doc is still our coach, etc... Has nothing to do about "freaking out about him leaving" and more just exhausted hearing the same crap over and over.
I guess I should know better by now that the NBA would rather talk about the off-court drama than the product on the court. Don't get me wrong, the drama can be fun sometimes, but it's becoming more of a circus.

If you aren't seeing a certain "element" to how the media just completely buys whatever a guy like Jokic says at face value while conversely pscho-analyzing every single throwaway comment and quote by Giannis....well, I don't know what to tell you.

i can. Giannis will be 35 for the 2030 pick. I doubt he is a top 10 player at that point. By 2032 he probably isnt a top 25 player. On the opposite side, if we trade giannis and rebuild there is a decent chance we are a mid-tier team in 7 years.
TLDR: We are likely to suck 2030-2032 whether Giannis is here or not.

Yeah, its like we hold some players to such a higher unreasonable standard. Dude has been here 13 years. How many of you have been with your job for 13 years and never considered leaving?

Okay, carry on.
Instead we get this...
Didn't he say last week in that Greek interview how he hopes he never gets traded? Seems like he's talking out of both sides of his mouth.
He wants to make sure the team doesn't get cheap and give him crap teams the next ten years, knowing he will be loyal and just stay... If they continue to try to keep being a competitive team striving for championships, he is in.

I mean, theoretically it could happen this season if we start 2-8 again and there isn't a Dame around to help Giannis see the light.
Its not worth worrying about but writing all this off as nothing is kind of weird.

If my job could pay me more for my position than any other place in the country I'd stay a whole lot longer.

ok but in today's NBA environment, that isn't really true with Giannis and the Bucks. Players can have their cake and eat it, too. They can sign the contract and then ask out with them getting their request 90% of the time. Add in either less income (Texas/Florida) or increase in endorsements (Cali/NY), there are probably 10 teams where Giannis probably could get more total income even if he left money on the table and signed as a free agent.

This is where I am at. Both sides kind of agreed but it was worth running it back as a second tier contender to see how the team looks with a Giannis playing Point Forward. If it fails and we are a play-in team at the break, both Giannis and the owners could be like what is the point. Owners cut their loses and shed salary over the next couple years while rebuilding and Giannis wins a ring or two as a mercenary.
Side note: https://www.hoopshype.com/salaries/teams/
Are these salaries accurate? I didnt realize the Bucks salary has dropped so far in comparison to other teams. I thought they would be top 10 but are 24th right now. And Cleveland is at $236m? Holy crap, is that even close to sustainable? Mavs are so f-ing 'lucky' they got the #1 pick because man they would be screwed paying AD and Ky $100m the next two years on a maxed out team.

Not too many things I would peg as having a zero percent possibility, but Giannis pulling a Jimmy/KD and demanding to be traded mid-season is about as close to "ain't happening ever" territory as I can imagine.

it's hard to compare the two sports, but we are very clearly the Cincinnati Bengals. we have the best player in the game but without him the cast looks incredibly mediocre. bad even.
as long as Giannis stays healthy, we can compete

Theres daylight between Giannis pulling a Jimmy and him and the Bucks mutually agreeing it isn't working and isn't going to work. Yes, as fans, basically any scenario with keeping Giannis is better than the alternative but the owners are billionaires for a reason. If the team sucks and they can flip Giannis to save 9-figures during a rebuild they may do versus plowing money into a 9th seed. I don't think the owners pull a Luka trade but could be willing to listen to offers and send Giannis to a contender.

Giannis isn't doing it mid-season because of *insert everything his actions have told us about him as a person and competitor for his entire adult life*. The organization isn't doing it midseason because the offers would be trash and we don't control our pick anyways. Makes zero sense for any side.

I don't think I have ever, not for even 3 minutes, had any small feeling that Giannis would demand a trade. Like MD said, maybe in the future it will make sense, but even with Dame going down, I didn't think it would be a thing.

Re: Giannis Thread - "The Finals are different, I hope to be back soon with the Bucks"
I dont think he will ask to leave and think he will embrace the control and stats of being the main guy on upper middle-class team (I think we will a solid 50-win team this year). I just won't be shocked if we suck and he is on the wrong-side of 30 on a team with limited assets. The biggest issue I have with ESPN and Shams is them acting like they know what will happen in the future. Its more likely than not that Giannis will leave the Bucks at some point. Giannis is loyal but he wants to win and be top 10 player all time. If it is clear we suck and arent getting better, I can see both sides throwing up their hands and saying we tried.

Giannis ended the season 52nd on the all-time scoring list (Including ABA) at 20,538. A healthy season should put him at 42 passing Dame at 22,598.
He's currently 9th for active players and is only 30. In two years, he should be in the low 30s passing Ray-Ray, and in three years (god willing) in the top 25 passing the likes of KG. He could easily be in the top 15 of points when he is 35.

ESPN is taking a victory lap saying Giannis confirmed Shams’ reporting while contradicting Edens at media day.
The NBA media industrial complex is going to do what they do for clicks but the Bucks should better get their story straight with Giannis moving forward:

Pretty sure Giannis just didn't want Edens giving away the game.
The dude consistently says all he wants is a shot at another ring and also never believes we don't have a shot at a ring.
