Maybe the waive Livingston and give Livingston a two way spot? He still gets the NBA salary and the Bucks are so far under the tax, it won’t matter.
That does make sense...

Coffey making the team and having a likely (significant) role in the rotation seems like it was always going to happen after he signed the deal he did.

I keep coming back to this because it worries me a bit.

KPJ - 1 year deal
Anthony- 1 year deal
Trent - 1 year deal
Rollins - 2 year deal (PO), needs to prove himself quickly
Green - 1 year deal
Coffey - 1 year deal
Prince - 1 year deal
Any Kuzma minutes

Where do the minutes come from at the 1-3 positions to keep all these guys happy? Maybe it’s an iron sharpens iron situation in camp and everyone is happily competing day in and out. Or… in reality, Doc Rivers is our coach.

Just not sure how any coach would effectively manage this situation.

I'd wager 2+ of them aren't here after the deadline.

I’ve grown less sure KPJ has got the starting spot locked down.

Seems like there’s been a PR ramp up with Cole Anthony being featured at media day after the Nehm profile and Giannis praise.

That and I had forgotten KPJ had fallen out of the starting rotation closing out the regular season:

At the start of free agency, it looked as though Horst was going to use Porter and Rollins to try to take Lillard’s vacated spot at point guard. But then Anthony became available, and the Bucks signed him. Anthony primarily came off the bench for the Orlando Magic the last two seasons, so he may slot into the backup point guard role in Milwaukee, as well, but Rivers closed the regular season with Rollins in the starting lineup and Porter coming off the bench. That changed by the end of the first round, but it remains to be seen what Rivers thinks will be the best way to utilize his point guard trio this season.

I’m team Big O on this one. Greg and Doc are good friends. Cole will be PG until he’s not.

Nobody on this roster outside of Giannis, Turner, and Bobby has "earned" anything. It should absolutely be an open competition for the 1-3 starting spots.

Anyone have any theories why the on/off stuff has been so bad for Coffey?

Agreed, and I don’t even think “starting” is a big deal. There’s a ton of minutes to go around, and the starter isn’t guaranteed to get the majority of them anyway.

This isn’t the most skilled Bucks team in recent years, but it might be the most versatile since 2018 when we had Bled, Brogdon, Khris, Giannis, Brook and that great bench

Guessing it's like Prince, he just sucks.

Thats the main thing. But also, there are going to be injuries. Giannis will only play 65-70 games, someone will twist an ankle, etc. There are plenty of minutes to go around if someone steps up. If they don't get minutes, they probably didnt deserve them.

That tracks (sigh).

KPJ is bigger though so might make it easier for a small ball lineup flanked by GTJ/Green, but Doc could also easily decide that should be more of a situational lineup off the bench, for better or worse.

Coffey being featured at media day and talking about his history with Doc struck me too -- made it seem more likely he'll be fighting Kuz/Prince for a starting spot at SF as opposed to getting beat out by Livingston/Smith/Ajax for a roster spot.

In that case we may be looking at a rotation more like the following, which would also give us shooters fully surrounding Giannis like Horst's been talking about:

PG: Anthony, KPJ, Rollins
SG: GTJ, Green
SF: Coffey, Prince
PF: Giannis, Kuz
C: Turner, Bobby

Only thing that would infuriate me is if Prince or Kuzma are starting. X/GTJ/Green at the 1-3, where X = any of Rollins, KPJ, or Cole.

This is what I’m saying.

Completely ignoring the probability Kuzma gets any SF minutes…. You have 7 guys (6 of them young) needing minutes at these three positions to justify their next contracts. Most signed team friendly prove-it deals. These guys aren’t going to be happy with 18-20 mpg.

It’s a situation of our own creation, borne of necessity, but I don’t think you go into the year like this. Too much potential for lockeroom meltdown.

Im usually wrong but imo im seeing either kpj or CA as our starting PG.Both have done it porter pit up some good stats per 36 20/7/7 csn hsndle the rock rebound shoot well and was getting the rust off when he came here.Seemed to have great chemistry with giannis as well.CA is a vet has been a starting pg before good on D n can rebound also veey well.
Wouldnt surprise me to see both starting during the season n think both could do 18/8/8 if giving enough minutes. All you need from your PG both are much better on D than dame was

Let's be fair, Doc has demonstrated over the years that he is a great communicator and he is one to take the blame and calm things.... and never throws his players under the bus.
Amos Barshad: "So you got a job, a place to live, a license? What’s left?"

Giannis: “Nothing. Just get a ring now.”
