Hey, they managed to be 17th in the league per 100 in 3PA last year with Dame Lillard on the team. I'm totally sure that will go up without him

Didn't it go up last year once Dame was out?

KPJ 28/ Anthony 20
Trent 24/ Green 24
Kuzma 30/ Coffey 18
Giannis 34/ Bobby 14
Turner 30/ Bobby 11/ Sims 7

Here's a guess at a 10 man rotation we'll start the season with. This isn't how I'd do it, just a gut feel on how it shakes out to at least start the season.

Rollins as the injury replacement guard, Prince waiting on Kuzma or Coffey falling out of favour.

Edit: finally got the numbers right

Maybe a handful of the Coffey minutes above go to Giannis, with Sims getting those corresponding minutes at C in silly three big lineups.

Very much so. Surely the favor has been executed now and he can be cut with all his money.

I can’t see this. Rollins out of the rotation until an injury?

I feel like the powers that be LOVE Rollins (so do I tbh). Prince is going to get minutes, or else he wouldn’t have signed back here. And honestly, he was pretty good at the 3. He can’t play 2 to save his life, but he’s a decent option at SF in spurts.

Why the Harris hate?

Trent will play the 3, just like last year. Hopefully Rollins is the backup 2.

Somehow I had Gary Trent on my mind. Yeah anything we get out of Harris is gravy.

Think this will work

KPJ / Cole
Green / Rollins
GTJ / Kuz
Giannis / Portis
Miles / Sims

As long as Giannis keeps his 3 attempts down, we've got a big chunk of usage that should be in the basement in 3PA rate. So we should keep that context in mind when we look at team attempts. Top 10 probably still doable but not a certainty. 42% of our FGAs were 3s last year, but if you exclude Giannis, it was 51%, which would be #2 in the league.

I'm certain that being by far the worst offensive rebounding team in the league hurts us worse than not taking enough 3s. That's probably not going to stop unless Turner spends a lot less time above the break than Brook did. And doing that would probably reduce the proportion of our 3PAs. Maybe better ball movement puts teams in rotation and creates some space for guys to crash.

This never stopped us from being 5th, 4th, 5th, 8th, 4th, and 2nd in attempts the previous 6 straight seasons. It's a uniquely Doc thing.

What were Giannis' 3PA in those seasons?

I'd play Rollins for sure, just guessing Doc rolls with 4 guards to start with and Anthony gets first crack. I think our 5 best perimeter guys are the guards so I'd happily give them all the 1-3 minutes they can handle and just use whoever out of Kuzma, Coffey, Prince for when we really want to throw a taller guy at big SFs.

Could we sign Khris if he's bought out before the playoffs, or does it gotta be next year?

Gray Trent can't rebound, in my head it's any of the other guys guarding SF in three guard lineups, not that it's super important I guess, in a lot of defensive systems the PG is that clean up guy

From memory it's a 12 month rule. Would love him for whatever minutes he could be hid for off the bench. Might be very part time like 2011 Mavs Peja, but still situationally ace.

I think Doc realized he stumbled into something with the Porter/Trent/Green starting lineup and he’s going to stick with it.

midranger wrote:Coffey making the team and having a likely (significant) role in the rotation seems like it was always going to happen after he signed the deal he did.

I keep coming back to this because it worries me a bit.

KPJ - 1 year deal
Anthony- 1 year deal
Trent - 1 year deal
Rollins - 2 year deal (PO), needs to prove himself quickly
Green - 1 year deal
Coffey - 1 year deal
Prince - 1 year deal
Any Kuzma minutes

Where do the minutes come from at the 1-3 positions to keep all these guys happy? Maybe it’s an iron sharpens iron situation in camp and everyone is happily competing day in and out. Or… in reality, Doc Rivers is our coach.

Just not sure how any coach would effectively manage this situation.

I think the team has been intentionally built this way. Our offense will rely on many more 3 point attempts. Somebody or the other from our myriad shooters will be “hot” everyday. So we will have different people playing more minutes on different days depending on who is hot on a particular day. Except for Giannis, Myles and Bobby.
