Yessir. His ridiculous numbers at Bucknell stood out. I wonder if I compared him to you know who?AFM wrote:CCJ's guy back before he was drafted IIRC.
(From locked Draft Thread III, May 20, 2013)
Instead of drafting Len at around #10 I would prefer to see the Wizards reach on McDermott if Porter is off the board. I have a feeling McDermott could surprise and end up a better pro than Porter, but I would choose Porter because of his athleticism and developing physique. He's like Paul George, and very likely will improve as a scorer with time.
With their round 2 picks if the Wizards selected Nate Wolters and Zach Marshall, I would be ecstatic. Marshall could be a real sleeper pick.
Aside from McDermott, my other favorite player in this draft is CJ McCollum. He's a volume scorer who I think will transition to become an effective combo guard. Like Wolters, McCollum is a superior offensive player. He's not as big of a liability defensively as Wolters. Wolters is by far a better playmaker. McCollum is a no-brainer good pick for the Wizards.
That draft I really liked McDermott. I thought highly of Olynyk for his IQ and offensive versatility. I liked his strength. Another player I liked a bit less than Olynk was Alex Len, who IMO is a stiff who's been stealing NBA checks for years.
McDermott hasn't been too different than I anticipated. Porter really could have had a great career if his body had held up.
Obviously, McCollum has panned out as a great volume scorer and combo player.
Tre Johnson is the future of the Wizards.

Re: CJ !!!!
It’s an amazing thing he said. It speaks volumes about the culture shift.
And also: CJ is just an incredible person. A man of humility, depth, and breadth, who doesn’t take himself too seriously, or the game he’s so fortunate to make his living with.
That Forbes piece is so so fun and refreshing to read. Especially if, like me, you love wine. But even if you don’t.
But everything I’ve ever come across about CJ is impressive.
We’re very, very lucky to have him, even for a short time.

Agreed! I knew nothing about CJ McCollum before he got here. It doesn't take long to understand what an impressive human being he is.
