Victor Wembanyama 25-26 Thread

Post#1 » by TroubleS0me » Tue Sep 30, 2025 5:35 am

2024-25 Record: 34-48 (13th in West, missed playoffs)

Victor Wembanyama was shut down on Feb. 20 because of a deep vein thrombosis diagnosis.
He averaged 24.3 points, 11.0 rebounds and a league-high 3.8 blocks last season — all career-best marks –
His shooting improved across the board with a 58.6% 2-point percentage and 35.2% 3-point percentage.

The team also established one of the best point guard/center combinations in the league by acquiring De’Aaron Fox at the trade deadline. And despite missing out on the playoffs for the sixth straight year, San Antonio realized its core of the future, pairing Kia Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle with Fox and Wembanyama in the starting five.

But it was also the end of a legendary era. Gregg Popovich – the NBA’s all-time winningest coach – stepped down after 29 years at the helm, leaving the franchise under Mitch Johnson’s guidance as it seeks to translate young talent to winning ways.

Offseason

Re-signing: Bismack Biyombo, De’Aaron Fox (extension), Jordan McLaughlin
Additions: Luke Kornet (free agent), Kelly Olynyk (trade), Lindy Waters III (free agent)
Draft: Dylan Harper (2nd pick), Carter Bryant (14th pick)
Departures: Malaki Branham (trade), Sandro Mamukelashvili (free agent), Chris Paul (free agent), Blake Wesley (free agent)
Unsigned Free Agents: Charles Bassey

Lots of young guys to watch develop. Headlined by Victor - not near as high on his early play as some, but a mountain of potential.

Don't really like the Fox move/extension, feel like he's not good enough to be *the guy* they pair Wemby with, and they paid quite a few picks.

I'm hoping to see the Spurs make the play-in this season.
I bought a boat.

Is as far as wcf possible? If they make it that far already it'd be a huge accomplishment and a set up for fulfilling the hype.

Year 3 Wembanya is here, and he's looking scary... for the rest of the league.
He might already be the best player in the league this season.

Hey, hey now. That would be unprecedented I think. (Kareem, Russell/Wilt I guess, but they were quite older)
This place is a cesspool of mindless ineptitude, mental decrepitude, and intellectual lassitude. I refuse to be sucked any deeper into this whirlpool of groupthink sewage. My opinions have been expressed. I'm going to go take a shower.

MJ also, and LeBron also had a claim for it (Even if it wasn't the consensus back then).
Wemby is clearly that special, I truly believe he can win the MVP this year.

It's so over for this league, if he stays healthy he's gonna be the GOAT, plain and simple.

Let's hope he can live up to the lofty expectations because the PR campaign is nauseating.

The hype is very authentic, just as it was years ago when he was just some kid hooping in France.

Let's hope. He's turning 22 in less than three months. I want to see the form from the start of last season, for an entire year + team success. That's not too much to ask for, given the "hype."

is it me or does wemby being +290 to have a 5x5 game this season seem like really low odds? it feels like he could just trip and fall into a couple of 5x5 games, although i guess there's the everpresent "he might only play half the season" part of the equation.

Hitting that, good callout. He already has multiple 5x5s. Seems closer to 50/50 to me than +290
