Dilfer won because at one time he played for Seattle.

Go watch his Seattle highlights. They're somewhat impressive.

Everything about Seattle is impressive. Don't understand why more folks from the east coast don't move out there.

Fellas, this is something I have argued a lot in here, many times. Because the idea that all of this is just a tennis match between 2 QBs is SUCH a common view point by so many fans. I think this is basically what separates football purists from casuals. It is an absolute eye-roller every time. Not sure why some of you even bother to watch the draft if you think it all just falls on the QB.

Giving QBs full credit for not only wins and loses but entire Championships needs to die, and I will never stop pointing that out.

It needs to die for baseball pitchers as well, but that is more justified than QBs.

Honestly, the NBA is a sport where one star player has more impact than either Pitchers or QBs. They play BOTH sides of the ball, and only 5 players are impacting the game vs 11 in the NFL or 9 in baseball. It is much closer to being a single player sport or just narrowing the whole game down to "Jordan vs Malone"

I'm not sure what group to place myself in. Since 2002, I've been calling for the Cowboys to go all out on defense almost every year. I can't remember a year when I was searching for a QB for the Cowboys. I just realized in the chat that it has been since we drafted Troy Aikman that I ever thought about drafting a QB. Maybe its my fault.

Top 10 QB's

Post#307 » by Jaydubb » Wed Oct 1, 2025 4:37 pm

There’s different ways to build a Super Bowl team but the usual recipe for success is elite defense with a good or better QB/offense or elite QB with a very good defense.

But I will say that I think a common denominator in most if not all Super Bowl teams is they usually always have a very good to elite OL and/or DL. This is why I think teams need to focus more on the trenches. Yes the WRs and RBs sell tickets and merch but the big fat guys are arguably a bigger reason for success. If the OL didn’t give the QB enough time for example, those WRs wouldn’t even get a chance or the QB wouldn’t be as accurate because he’d have to rush his throws. Look at Cincinnati, they don’t place a focus on the OL and now their QB is out and Jamarr chase is looking mid as ****.

I mean, it's possible. And if if happens you can bump this thread and show off your football IQ. But I do not think that will happen.

What's your Top 10?

Creating an accurate top-10 list, or one that I actually care about, would take some research and thinking, but I do think I can say right now the top-4 would be.

1. Lamar Jackson
2. Patrick Mahomes
3. Josh Allen
4. Joe Burrow

I think those are the top two tiers, with Lamar and Mahomes being the top tier. And then the 2nd tier being Burrow and Allen.

After that it gets a bit more difficult. And maybe I'll put forth the effort later in the week.

Any update?

Damn I dont remember Zach Wilson in AFC championship game. Also you cant measure defense by PPG because QB mistakes go into that.

While unperfect it is still the best single measure, truly elite defenses shut it down from the goal line.

Football Insiders used that adjust for that and grade defenses only when the offense starts past the 50 mark. It was a good one, can't find that any more.

Defensive EPA I think it was.

Dunno who Football Insiders is, but Football Outsiders had the 1991 Eagles as the best defense ever by DVOA. They didn't make the playoffs.

I do think if you asked most fans what made the 90s Cowboys so great, most would say "the offensive line" and not "Troy Aikman".

A rare situation where the fans actually get it right and don't just pin it all on the QB.

I'll try to make a top-10 today. Right off the bat though with what I have listed there before the season started, I nailed Lamar at #1, would still have him at #1. Mahomes is probably around 8-10 range, not top-5, possible not even top-10. Allen is probably #2. And Burrow is injured so probably have to asterix him out of it completetly.

Speaking of Joe Burrow being injured, might be time for fans to come around on the reality that he is an injury prone QB. A legit knock IMO.

tier 1
-Lamar Jackson
tier 2
-Josh Allen
tier 3
-Jared Goff
-Jordan Love
-Matthew Stafford
-Baker Mayfield
tier 4
-Patrick Mahomes
-Dak Prescott
-Jalen Hurts
-Justin Herbert

I think it is kind of like this right now. Move players around within their tiers as you want.

Lamar has not played well enough to be in a tier by himself.

Give me Josh Allen atm.

Dak in the same tier as Mahomes is bold, but I'm not gonna criticize your Top 10 too much as I asked for it.

It did feel weird putting him that low, yes. I had him at #2 before the season started, gave him a pass for being "average" last season. How long does he get that pass though?

IDK that is the one player I have might have to rethink. Because if I am being honest I'd take Mahomes over every QB in the tier 3 list. But all those QBs are playing better than he is right now so I gotta be real about it. Not favor the guy just because of his name.

I still have Showtime Mahomes on tier #1 all by himself. Am I wrong considering all the hardware and rings?

All of this to create some narrative that Dak is better than Hurts.

Get over it. Hurts is a top 10 QB at minimum and is better than Dak.
