But when you ask people to actually say, explain, pinpoint where his enormous talent and potential actually manifests, you get nothing palpable. I watched enough of his games not to be excited at all. Every single player you mentioned is a better basketball player than Khaman at this point. Repeating myself, maybe he is a madly dedicated worker and improves significantly in every aspect of the game in a few years, but it just doesn't look particularly realistic to me. I immediately think of Thon Maker...

Huge differerences between Maluach and Thon Maker.

Maker didn't have any experience before being drafted in 2016. He played at High School and that's it. He was an absolute mystery box in the draft.

Maluach played professional basketball for a couple years in the BAL League in Africa at just 16 and 17 years old. That league has international players there, like Lual Acuil or Omar Oraby who were two of the starting Cs that he faced in that professional league. He was improving and playing more minutes and he put good numbers on his last games. Impressive.

Then, he played as a starter at Duke and he showed a big improvement during the season. He showed that he can effectively play a role as a defensive C and rim runner in the NBA. That's another experience and proofing that Maker didn't have at all.

And Maker is only one inch shorter than Maluach BUT he was 37 lbs thinner than him at the draft. Both at the same age. That's huge to play C in the league and talks about two different types of frames.

I still see Bamba more than Ibaka with him.

But he's so bloody young, he's a good 2-3yr away from being a 24+ mins a game guy

10 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists in 20 minutes. (+4).

Here his highlights and lowlights:

Been on holidays so haven't been doing much other than box score reviewing after games. How has the Big M looked? I think more importantly, how does his conditioning look? Generally a big rookie 7fter usually struggle with their stamina and keeping up with the NBA pace.

Things like rebounding, finishing and defense usually improve as their NBA conditioning (and strength) improves and they can play with more minutes, at a higher pace and also play with more physicality.

I didn't get to watch this game, but if the highlights of this game is hopefully a glimpse of the type of player Maluach might turn into then I'm excited.

On offense I love the way he attacks the rim. No Ayton style soft little layups, he looks to dunk the ball + defender whenever he gets the chance. I love that play where he catches the ball outside of the key and just straight up storms to the basket with one or no dribble rather than settle for a midranger.

The fact that Maluach was essentially guaranteed of playing 30 minutes this game probably helped as a confidence boost, knowing that he could play through mistakes.

His raw stat line is great 17/ 8 (3 offensive), 5 stocks, 2 assists and only one turnover.

Yeah just on the highlights alone, I do like how he's getting to the gaps and just doing work, whether it's alley pop dunking, crashing the boards or blocking/challenging shots. He's just making his size and length a real factor out there.

Like there's other big guys like Richards but you don't really feel his presence unless he dunking the ball. He's just kinda a big dude but you still forget he's out there sometimes. I think KM's size and IQ and knowing where he needs to be to add value does a lot for him

And there guys who are reactive, who waits a second or so to see what the ball is doing before they make their move. KM moved just to fill space and being in the spaces gives him better opportunities to make a move. An example is with DA, he used to ball watch and waits to see if he should go into the paint to rebound but KM is just getting in there because he knows if he's there, he'll be in a better position to rebound even if it doesn't end up being a rebounding opportunity. the fact that DA has a middy means there's a percentage of his time where he's just hanging around the midrange for a kick out. KM doesn't seem to be hanging around in nomansland

I think TOR made the biggest blunder (at that point in the draft) and gifted this monster to you guys. Congrats! I'm excited for the rebirth process in PHX.

It’s too early to say one thing or another but I think the Suns got lucky with Maluach’s visa issues.

Ujiri liked Maluach and I am pretty sure that he recommended him to the Raptors organization but they probably didn't want to deal with those off the court issues.

His potential is amazing. This game against the Lakers is just a proof of his actual upside.

He definitely got into a groove at a couple points this game. He needs to get stronger to be more stable in his movements. Legs and upper body need more strength.

I think he's just 19. Give him a few years.

I really liked how he put Luka on the ground with a screen.

It was a really good groove! I say since we technically have 3 centers other than him, he should be full on strength developing and learning this whole season. Next year, he should be a useful piece from the beginning of the season.
