Re: Warriors exploring S&T for Kuminga
Grimes signed the PO. Sixers fans seem pissed.
Apparently Sixers offer had AAV of like $10 million so not enough for him to sign with the team. That is it was only $1-1.5 million more than the QO.
So they can’t even trade him unless he waives the NTC.

I heard Seth coming in on camp deal to be cut. Then sign on 11/15. to get under the apron.
Unnecessary. Not sure why they would do this.
Unnecessary? Seth signed exhibit 9 contract for fun then?

Given the financial limitations and sans some wild, unrealistic trade, I'm pretty happy with the offseason so far.
Good result on JK, good vet signings for what we had to offer.

Things really did work out great for the Dubs. Horford brings experience and a great skill set that fits well with the rest of the team. A healthy Melton and GP2 both return. Kuminga returns with zero control over his eventual trade destination. If the team performs, Mike Dunleavy should receive some consideration for executive of the year.

MDJ was constantly called the worst just a few days ago. He is way better than Myers in his short stay so far. I could have done as good a job as Myers at the peek of the dynasty.

When are the games? It's getting boring again without the drama.

If a team acquires Kuminga because they like him, and not just as an expiring contract, they will want to know he will re-sign with them... but if they want him as a player I assume they will offer a nice contract and a prominent role so Kuminga ought to be happy with that.

So, at the end of the day, what was it all about for Kuminga? Couldn't he have "bet on himself" without setting fire to a giant pile of cash?

My response was based on my understanding of Kuminga's contract, which I had correctly figured out, but most everyone else was wrong because they based their reports on an agent's slanted comments.
Now, what I *didn't* know was that Melton's contract was for two years on a 7-yr minimum salary, which forces the first season to be counted as the full amount for a player in the league 7 years instead of the 2-yr vet minimum against the aprons and luxury tax. About $792K more, taking the Warriors from below the 2nd apron to above if Seth had received a salary for the full year.

This movie is like the Rocky Horror Picture Show where everyone knows all the lines.

Kuminga with a 22.9 starting salary with a 15% trade kicker is 26,335,000 M. I think gsw pays the trade kicker in any trade.
Let the fun begin.

It’s going to be really hard to trade jk since we’re so close to the 2nd apron and have to pay that trade kicker isn’t it.

Kuminga's starting salary will be $22.5M. The trade kicker would be applied at the time of any trade, and it would be calculated against the remainder of the salary owed for the season.
Since he can't be traded until January 15th at the earliest, about half of the full amount would be gone. The most the trade kicker can be is about $1.7M, and the least it can be this season is $1.3M on the day of the trade deadline.
So, Kuminga would earn anywhere from $23.8M to $24.2M if traded this season. I would imagine the trade kicker was a bit of an incentive to have Kuminga agree to waive his no-trade clause on the contract.

Not really. The most the trade kicker can be this season is $1.7M. They just would need to take back a bit less in a trade than they send out. And since they're over the 1st apron anyway, they can't take back more than they send out in a trade for the rest of this season.

I think there are some players in that range that are worth considering and all a better fit than kuminga.
- Dillon brooks
-Wiggins
- Trey Murphy
- mpj (would need to add hield or moody)
Don’t see how we stretch much past that salary range.

Re: Warriors exploring S&T for Kuminga
Trade bonuses can be a pain though, when matching salaries, since they they're not counted in outgoing salary, but are counted in the incoming salary for the receiving team. A player can waive all or part of the bonus, though, if it's a trade he wants and that's what is holding it up.
