Re: 2025 Training Camp & Preseason Thread
I had Nikola Jovic as our breakout player and think if he gets the minutes and the team wins games he'll be a chance for MIP.
So I am all in. I like the contract.
- Still only 22. Barely older than draft pick Cedric Howard and younger that WCJ, a year younger than Nique Clifford. You are basically getting a senior college player, but with 3 years NBA experience.
- Averaged 15.4 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 4.1 apg, 1.2 spg, only 1.9 topg per 36, so moderate improvement and more mins would still see decent numbers, maybe Lamar Odom like but less rebounding, more shooting.
- Team has a need for playmaking, which he can provide. He can help facilitate the 2 x SG lineups of Powell and Herro.
- Herro injury gives him real chance to start or get mins and get in a groove.
- Gets to the line, has showed more aggression there.
- Body continues to fill out.
- Shot 56.3% on 2's last year, high finishing percentage. Only Ware and Herro shot better who are still on the team.
- Shot 37.1% from three last season, on fairly high volume. Following up from previous season of 39.9%.
- Just had a very good Eurobasket for the most part and displayed a lot more confidence.
I'm seeing a guy that is ready to make a leap, offers a fairly jack of all trades handy set of tools, efficient scoring, playmaking and if I think I recall, his advanced defensive numbers were actually pretty good.
I'm on board with it.

Yeah, I'm probably the biggest proponent of Jovi on here and I am even a little caught off guard by it. Not that the deal is bad, but I'm surprised they rushed to get it done.
Maybe they are seeing something in camp and over the summer that makes them think he would have gotten more expensive if we waited a season? Idk. Or, maybe even more likely, maybe they felt compelled to lock him up since they wouldn't give him up for Durant during the summer (which I still don't fully disagree with).
This is how i see it too.they did a positive thing by letting Duncan go so and they didnt go all in on old KD so they are making smarter choices. It would be counter productive to give him this extension and minimize him. Now is the time throw him out there and see if he is a career role player or Joker lite

So where does Jovic extension leave us cap wise next season? Wiggins moved his family here so it’s unlikely he opts out either unless we extend him to a longer deal with maybe a little discount. Thats a good 45 mil between the two of them on our big offseason to get a whale right?

Re: 2025 Training Camp & Preseason Thread
Jovic is now the 5th highest paid player behind Bam, Herro, Wiggins, Rozier, and Powell. Heat betting on potential of a 22 year old for sure. Even if they think he's not there in 2-3 years he'll only be 24-25 so still some potential another team may be willing to take as part of a package at $15 mil a year. He is pretty skilled for a guy who is 6'10. Not incredible athletic, but that's what he was picked in the late first round and not the lottery.

Re: 2025 Training Camp & Preseason Thread
Jovic deal is fair, maybe a slight overpay. But it's nothing egregious.
He's come out and said some interesting things this off season.
Im a 4 or 5.
Im not a 3.
I want to start.
This is a challenge to Ware and Spo must be loving it. Jovic either starts with bam or ware picks up his game. Down the road, it could be a jovic/ware frontcourt if things go well.

Smith appears to be a full participant. Maybe he’ll be ready to go day 1?

Is $15 mil really an overpay for a legit 6th man though in today's NBA?
Say you start Ware and Bam and Jovic is first big off the bench. He can play with either of them so there is some real flexibility there. You just have to hope he stays healthy so he can give you 30 minutes a game for 70 plus games.

i think Bam is more than capable of playing at the 3 if thats the case and would make our front court similar to the Dwight Howard Magic when they him starting with Rashard Lewis and Hedo

The front office is hoping Jovic will become the next Detlef Schrempf.

What does that even mean? Bam will be the full time point guard…dramatic.
