The last healthy 2 years Kawhi had for the Spurs:

The chasm between the upside of Kawhi and Ingram was/is massive.

Kawhi was a top 3 impact player. We’ll be lucky if Ingram is top 25 imo. Even if he’s healthy his upside is low level all-star. He’s basically a better fitting (with Barnes) Siakam-level player.

All that said, as a #1 option he’s way better than anyone else we have.

The chasm between trading your top scorer and top 2 player, a recent top 10 pick and a 1st vs trading an expected late 1st+2 salary fillers...is also massive.

As a team that needs to look for buy low opportunities, it's well worth the risk.

This is it in a nutshell. We’re not the lakers. No one is offering us Doncic. If you can get an all star caliber player for a frp plus expirings and he can deliver 55-60 games a year and healthy for the playoffs you have to make that deal

Our expectations are also all over the place. Not sure why we’re even talking about Leonard when we didn’t spend like we’re acquiring a Leonard.

The team is now in the accumulating talent phase when they had Lowry and Derozan. I would look at Ingram like acquiring a Derozan or Ibaka.

Hopefully we can get some exciting games back this season

That sounds about right. Ingram is a little better than DeRozan, but considerably less available, so that's the trade-off. But we're absolutely in the "build a decent team and hope to find some good deals to help you get better and position for a major talent acquisition" phase. And we thought for a long time that we were capped out with that team, too, until we weren't. But even if we never get better than the pre-Kawhi team, that's fine: we were really good, and fun to watch until the deeper rounds of the playoffs (or any time against a really good D).

Hopefully we can get some exciting games back this season

We 100% will if we are any kind of healthy.

This is my opinion as well.

The We The North era was, for the most part, without contendership... but it was a great era, nonetheless, even from 2014-2018! Especially after the dismal Bargnani era. So many teams have been throwing SPAGHETTI against the WALL trying to get similar success, even taking our players to try and do so! The 76ers... the Chicago Bulls... the Spurs... only the KNICKERBOCKERS have had success and not for as long as we did.

2014-2018?!?!?!?!?! That's half a decade of rizz which, in professional sports, is a span of considerable lemgth.

Yeah, I mean... there are only so many title teams. Like a third of the league doesn't even have one actual NBA title. Maybe more if you don't count ABA titles. So ECF appearances and 50+-win seasons are fun, especially with all the sucking we've done over our franchise's relatively brief history. That was a great run, with a team that was fun to watch before the playoffs (and later on, even in the playoffs).

If we get anything like that out of this team, I will be absolutely thrilled, even if not one season involves us authentically contending for a title (or even a Finals berth).

I am completely with you guys, I would much rather watch a team that makes the playoffs year in and year out even if they aren’t a contender, than watch a team that is tanking for 5 years straight or more with no guarantee they will ever become a contender anyway. Watching a good winning team is so much more fun. I’m excited for this season

Having good defensive players going up against our starter should give some good internal development. I'm hoping Walter and Gradey sense that RJs spot is available and prove why they're more worthy. It'll be good to see who emerges there a lot hinges on this year for everyone involved at SG

The more important prediction: How many games will he play? I hope for 60+ regular season.

Edit: Those are Lakers Lebron numbers Lol.

There should be a form of load management for Ingram. Maybe against weaker teams after Christmas? It'll periodically give RJ and IQ bigger scoring roles so they can develop. Dismissing that idea isn't a good plan.

I'm looking forward to watching Ingram play. He's got a lot prove. Hopefully he stays healthy.
