I do expect the offense to look different compared to the Jimmy era. He's long gone now, so the offense doesn't have to be built to cater to his skills or try to walk a tight rope between him and Bam/Herro depending on what night he wants to show up.

I personally think a lot of it will be Bam surrounded with shooters and cutters when we're at full strength. And Herro, Powell, Mitchell running two man games and drive and kick offense similar to the 7/11 days.

I just look at this team here. During their run this season you can see the urgency, the decisiveness on fast breaks, turning defense into offense, shooting from multiple positions, ball movement, Dion and Dragic able to get their feet in the paint and finish or kick it out to one of the shooters. And I think this team was FAR less talented than our current team at full strength. The major difference I see is to don't know if Herro and Powell have the ability to get to the paint peak Waiters and Dragic did, and we don't really have anyone with the pure interior presence Whiteside had. (Even though his actual impact was overrated)

People under estimate how much this counts. Jimmy was not Bron or Wade where his coasting games were still manageable, his game is almost entirely effort, so when that goes you're throwing the ball to a roleplayer on those nights.

I appreciate Jimmy's greatness here (He's an all time Heat great now), but his unreliability effort wise drove me crazy. I don't know another Heat star that was as Hot and Cold as he could be in a single season. Hearing stuff like "picking his spots", or "Engaged Jimmy Bulter" drove me crazy. I didn't have to worry if Dragic, Wade, Bosh, Lebron, or even Herro and Bam are "engaged", but Jimmy was supposed to be a superstar greater or on the same level as them. (I know Shaq was up and down, but he was Shaq!)

Man I had hope for Whiteside, but once he got that paycheck he went onto diva mode. If only there was a way that team could have combined tyler Johnsons effort with Whiteside’s raw talent. If Whiteside kept his head in the game he would have been an allstar.

Tbh, I just think he was in general just a flawed player. He had overwhelmingly elite physical gifts, but his mentals were never all they way there. You can see this in the differences between him and Ruby Gobert. Similar 99th percentile length and athleticism for their size and Hassan even had a higher ceiling on the offensive end, but Gobert had SO much better timing, processing speed, and technique.

This a good video breaking this down.

With a young Bam (who does all these things at an elite level) coming, it was only a matter of time before Hassan was on the outside looking in. Its also these things that will decide if Ware will stick long term in Miami.

The good thing with Ware vs Whiteside is that Heat got him young and still moldable. 20 vs 25 is a big difference. Who knows how Whiteside could have turned out if he was drafted by the Heat instead of the Kings? Smh.

It's interesting to hear that Jovic is going hard to call himself a 4 or even 5. Idk. I suspect he just doesn't want any parts of having to guard on the perimeter.

I know he's filling out and obviously as far as size he's even taller than Bam, but I am very curious to see if he can bang in the paint with true big men like he's saying.

I don’t think it would have made a difference if Whiteside was picked up earlier in his career by rhe Heat. His work ethic was what it was. Nothing was going to change it except the prospect of a big contract payday.

I said all last year he's too herky-jerky and lumbery to guard 3s in the NBA.

The obsession with versatility is for Draft hype; the reality is you're lucky if a guy can actually play 2 positions.

Spo always talks about playing faster and with more pace but they always rank among the slowest teams in the league year after year regardless. I suspect that is once again what all this offensive talk boils down to, who knows maybe without Jimmy and with more young legs they finally actually do so. But I still have my doubts we'll actually see a significant change there, more likely it'll end up just being a marginal one. I think you have to go back to 2017 for the Heat to even crack the top 20 in team possessions per game when they ranked 19th lol.

Norman Powell is going to ball out, especially with Tyler Herro out. I see him 24 ppg right out of the gate.

The real question is do you commit to a player over 30? Given how much the Heat value veteran savvy, I’d say they’ll likely reward him with an extension.

Man I am not opposed to trading Bam. He is an amazing talent and that talent is being wasted with this squad, but it isn’t going to be to the Warriors. There is no deal they could pull off and Yimmy has nothing left.
