May be a good sign as Cubs sure get alot of action for being a national team and seems like Vegas really enticing people to bet on Cubs.

Torres is an "interesting" choice. So is Hoffman. HOFer sure but just 2 seasons here, one very good, one bad. No playoff appearances.

Hoffman is a weird choice. It would have made more sense if we played the Padres instead.

Not expecting Woody rest of the season but seems like it’s optimistic its not necessarily a career ending thing. And if we roll into the World Series struggle to think they would insert him in as assume what they go with would be working.

Torres is an insane choice. Dude wasn't good here at all and played for one year.

All these pitcher updates are pretty much as expected. The strained calf wasn't going to keep Quintana out if they want him, and they certainly will now that Woodruff is confirmed out. You have that great infield defense for a reason, so use it.

Quintana, Hall, and Misiorowski all have huge question marks, but what's the alternative? If you don't want them on the roster, whom do you want? Myers? Rob Z, a 33-year-old with less than 100 career IPs and a 1.40 WHIP? Gasser, who looked timid and wide-eyed just competing for a postseason roster spot in a low-stakes regular season game? Yoho, McGee, Carlos Rodriguez?

The only real question was whether Woodruff would be a surprise addition. Now that that's settled, I don't think there's going to be much to debate.

Boyd starting. In two starts against us (one in Chicago, one in Milwaukee) we roughed him up for 10 ER in 10.1 innings.

Absolutely have to have this one at home with our ace. Freddy hasn't been good in the playoffs the past 2 years.

I'm surprised there's any debate at all between Priester and Quintana for game 2. Whoever pitches game 2 would have 4 days rest before game 5, so it's a hugely consequential choice. I think both of them were somewhat worse than their numbers, benefiting from luck and defense, but Priester was objectively better almost all year, while Quintana looked more and more like a Wolf/Marcus/Lohse/Garza age-related implosion candidate the longer the season went on.

Quintana obviously has the experience, and I would have advocated for him to get 2 starts against the Padres because they struggle against LHPs, but the Cubs are dead-even from both sides of the plate and have too much power to mess around with Quintana's meatball stuff for more than one start.

ETA: Quintana also spent 3.5 seasons as a Cub, although he missed nearly the full last one. So he knows the home crowd, has seen it all before, and may be less likely to be intimidated in a game 3 start there IMO.

I would lean towards Priester. He faced the Cubs 3 times, one bad outing, 2 decent, never got out of the 5th. Quintana faced them once and got shelled. Quintana hasn't been in the playoffs since 2017 with the Cubs. Priester no playoff experience. I really wish we had Woody.

I agree that I'd go Priester. But Quintana did pitch against us in the playoffs last year

That's right. His first time pitching in the playoffs was 2017. And then Cards in 2022 and Mets last year. Last year he pitched 11 scoreless innings against us and the Phillies. Then gave up 5 in 3+ to the Dodgers.

I would not start Q at all in this series. He sucked down the stretch and Cubs mash LHP. I’ll be livid if he starts game 2.
