I've seen playoff games where a team was up big and then the other team somehow came all the way back and won it and THOSE are the real momentum shifting backbreakers. Thankfully, that didn't happen here so the Jays learn a lesson while still pulling it out.

That Vladdy grand slam was a superstar moment. Everything about that was incredible.

Yankees got lucky with their runs.

This was still a proper thrashing.

Kevin Pillar, nice to see him but jacket looks a size too small.

Maybe that's an old out of touch man talking
There goes my hero. Watch him as he goes.

500 mill is it worth it for a World Series

Berrios would have been a better choice over these bums Nance, Lauer and Bruihl.

If Vladdy is smacking the ball around like this for the entire postseason and we go all the way, I'd say he'll have earned...250 million of it. :P

They wanted a 4th lefty I imagine.
Once they decided Bassitt wasn't a good option to start game 4, it probably came down to who had the most utility in a close game any point in the series. And there was no such spots for Bassitt other than eating innings in a blowout.

That 4th lefty could conceivably be used in the 4th or 5th inning, when there are 1 or 2 outs, and 2 lefties coming up. I speculated it might be Borucki before the season started, but I'm not sure what happened to him after he accepted his assignment to Buffalo after we waived him.

But in all honesty, in a 5 game series with 2 off days, the 13th pitcher shouldn't have a role on close games anyway.

Another factor is why let him go through the lineup for a 3rd time? The less amount of times they see him the better especially if they may use him again later in the series.

Schneider said they wanted to spare him at Yankee stadium.I dont like it when Schneider or the Khakis makes plans ,and doesn,t have the flex to change them.Odds are either of then would have hit him here at home.He goes into NY now, they have hologram info on him,and it might not go exactly the same as it did here.
Now we have to hope Bieber pitches a no no

Game 5 would be at home

Is it better for hitters to have more or less intel on him?

I don't even look it as $500 million. I focus on the $36M (the annual cost). I don't expect the last 5 or 6 years to go well (the last $200M), but who knows where I will be in 2034.

Can he play like a $36M player for the next 5 or 6 years, or close to it. That's all I focus on.
We have seen that spending in FA has not been a strength of this management team in Winter 2023 and Winter 2024, so I doubt they would do better spending $36million (annual contract wise) on others in free agency.

It's also easier to justify the contract in the above manner, when he is bashing the ball like the last few games.

They are buying time for Bassitt. Berrios is pretty much done for the year, since he has not even resumed throwing as of yet but Bassitt has.

Ultimately the whole point of signing super star players is to give your team a chance to win it all. Again if the jays win it all, any money spent is worth it.

The Raptors fake comeback special when down 15 with 2 minutes to go, and Devlin gets all riled up when we get it to 7 or 8 with 30 seconds to go.

Winning it all can be pretty random.
I'd say the point of these players is to get you in position to be a playoff team every year, and more importantly consistently put you in a position to contend for the #1 or #2 seed each year and the benefits that brings. And then to perform well once we get there. If it gets us the World Series great.

Current management team (and out players) has not quite put us at level of consistency quite yet. But hopefully that changes next year, and we do well in 2025.
